The top three proposals will be showcased in Ōtautahi Christchurch and in an online event in April 2026. The winning team will be awarded $10,000 NZD, with two runners-up each receiving $5000 NZD.

Wool growers around the world are diversifying their farm systems to adapt to climate change, and maximising their resilience by planting to stabilise steep country or retiring lower-producing areas to allow native regeneration to provide more shade and shelter, and support natural ecosystems.

The rugs were made using ZQ-certified wool, which holds growers to the highest animal welfare standards while also assuring environmental and social responsibility.

Wool - a renewable fibre with a range of health benefits and natural performance features, was part of the conversation at Adaptation Futures 2025 recently thanks to The New Zealand Merino Company, which kindly provided the rugs used in our staging displays.

I have been letting the closing of @adaptationfutures.bsky.social simmer in my mind for the last day. What did we learn - what do we know about adaptation and what are the big questions? A brief thread to summarise what jumped out at me. 🧵 1/4

⭐️ Visiting Hinewai Reserve in the southeastern corner of Banks Peninsula.

⭐️ Exploring coastal adaptation and healthy harbour strategies within Whakaraupō/Lyttelton Harbour, with Ngāti Wheke.

⭐️ Touring Mid Canterbury’s braided river systems and the Rangitata River Diversion Race; and many more!

Some of the experiences have included:

⭐️ Exploring the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor red zone areas to look at disaster recovery.

⭐️ A workshop in arts, adaptation, climate change and transdisciplinary approaches at New Brighton Surf Life Saving Club.

Today, hundreds of #AF2025 delegates have been exploring Ōtautahi Christchurch during a series of Living Labs field trips.

We hope you all enjoyed this opportunity to engage with individuals and groups tackling climate change challenges in their local communities!
