1/ The first amendment of the Constitution prohibits state-sponsored religion and protects religious freedom. Starting a war to fulfill a biblical prophecy to bring about Armageddon is unconstitutional and puts the American people at serious risk.

2/ It’s off the rails insane that our military leaders are going down this road.

I urge my colleagues to join me in voting for the War Power's Resolution to take back the power of Congress in matters of war. www.huffpost.com/entry/troops...

Sen. Kelly: Sending young men and women to war is consequential. As a carrier pilot, we knew some of us might not come back. Trump is at Mar-a-Lago talking about his ballroom and playing golf.

Check your local 7-11. The Corvallis store on Monroe carries the Register-Guard. (Our local paper, the GT is crap.)

Agree. I was an undergrad for 8 years, for a plethora of reasons. I *loved* being a student, and I wished I could just take classes forever. To this day, I joke my biggest life mistake was filing for graduation.

So B.C. is staying on DST permanently! Which means when our neighbours from Washington cross the border, they'll not only need to adjust their clocks by an hour (six months of the year), they'll also still need to update the year from 1933 to 2026.

Retirement plans: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968) by Philip K. Dick An SF classic of noir paranoia, and an accessible introduction to PKD.

Philip K. Dick died on this day in 1982. In 2024, I wrote about the mid-career high of his superb novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (1968).

Of the 11 recessions since 1953, 10 began under Republican presidents. Unemployment rates have on average fallen under Democrats but risen under Republicans.

Manufacturing jobs have generally seen growth under Democratic administrations, while often decreasing under Republican administrations.

Sea Lion Cave, on the headlands a few miles north of Florence, Oregon. Two faults, one left center, another coming in from the right, interact with an ash bed (horizontal light band, middle) in Oligocene Yachats basalt to erode and create this enormous sea cave. βš’οΈ

Hadn't realized he'd died. I agree, the Hyperion/Endymion quadrilogy was exceptional (though the latter, with a relationship between a man and a girl initially ~20 years his junior, was skeezy to me). Read The Hollow Man, didn't really get it.

Here, in a nutshell, is why using AI for military purposes is worse than dangerous:

If you ask it for a plan to attack something, it will never respond "that's bad idea, don't do it."

This war is wrong because it is immoral, not because it is illegal. Aggression is illegal because it is immoral, and thus it is its immorality that should be the driving impetus behind enforcing its illegality.
