There are calculated reasons to take a risk at Eurovision. The song that finishes last is often not the worst one, it’s the one no-one notices. If loads of people hate your song but enough people love it, they’ll vote.

All on the stage performance for me, this one.

Safe to say the UK Eurovision entry is very different to anything its ever sent before - and there had been a lot of calls for that sort of approach. Also safe to say it’s impossible to say how this one will do until we see it on stage.

Good news: the joy of Scottish Twitter appear to be alive and well.
Bad news: it seems to have shifted over to TikTok. Which is a bit of a pain for those of us just used to tapping out our thoughts versus filming a full video, but hey ho.

There’s something a bit Doctor Who about it all from what I’ve seen, which is in no way a bad thing. Feels like the sort of thing that 1% either way could be amazing or completely the other way. So, er, yeah, no pressure.

Due to a child refusing to sleep, I’m joining Sanremo two hours late and catching up. I imagine once I’ve got past all the talky bits, random comedy and adverts I’ll be back with you in half an hour.

Apparently running 12 minutes late, which accordingly to previous years j can live with I guess.

As someone who supports a team that has had seasons like Wolves, I know they’ll be celebrating that one win as if they won the league. Good on them.

Of all the songs to appear on Sanremo covers night, The Riddle. I mean, I don’t hate it, just feels very random.

I don’t know if perfectly aligns with Comic Relief but I like the general thinking.

You need something that has more going on, that aims to be the big cultural moment for a country. Sanremo isn’t a Eurovision selection show but the winner can go, Melfest is but is also so much more.

Sidebar: amid all the talk about whether the UK should have a show to pick its Eurovision entry, we’ve been looking at this the wrong way. Any show which is designed with that as the only concern is never going to be that big.
