I am angry but hopeful and delighted.

I'm remembering that I was ALWAYS a pessimistic optimist, not the nihilistic cynic the world has made me feel for the past several years.

I feel like myself again. I feel like me.

And my mama is proud of me for recognizing I've been struggling, asking for help, and taking steps.

I feel so good about myself getting shit together despite the world being such a mess.

My ears are at 00g at last, I'm slowly figuring out how to be an AdultTM, I'm more comfortable in my skin by the day (and I've always loved myself), and I am remembering how hopeful I once was.

We were family. She had always said so. I've known her since I was eleven or twelve.

We were harmonious, unified.

This is our story.

I added ferns to signify her crossing over from life to death, and bang-and-weave for the way we are connected.

I added scorpions to represent strength and tenacity.

I added snake belly and centipede for protection. The centipede also represents long life, which I know she'd appreciate.

I decided to make an entire piece, showcasing the complex, intricate beauty of all the batok she shared with me.

I will get these symbols, our story, tattooed some day, in honour of what she could not.
