QA nerd. Mama. Sci-fi reader. Baker of delicious pies. Lover of naps, sunshine, and macarons (not in that order). Always learning. I write about quality and the sometimes invisible work of making software less awful at https://TheProductMindedQA.com

Using someone elseβs computer is like cooking in someone elseβs kitchen.
Everything is kind of the same but it still just feels weird.
My CSA just put out a call for donations of money to buy fresh produce at a bulk discount to provide bags of fresh food to families losing SNAP benefits.
Ask yours if they could do the same.

I saw a feel-good story recently about football players visiting sick kids via robot. It was sweet, for sure. But also.... not?

01.08.2025 01:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβd love to know what this brings up for y'all! Especially if youβve been the first QA hire on a team or helped make that hire and seen it go sideways π«

I unpack this (and what teams that *do* get value from QA do differently) in my article on @ministryoftesting.com: When hiring software testers doesn't work (and what to do BEFORE you hire them)
(Itβs a free read - no membership required.)
Meme of a cartoon character holding a broom and shouting enthusiastically, with the text βAUTOMATE ALL THE THINGS!β β parodying overenthusiastic automation culture.
When teams hire QA folks hoping for quick quality wins without also making room for quality work to *actually* work, itβs not surprising when "moar automation" doesnβt add up to real quality.

I saw a LinkedIn post not too long ago about a startup CEO who believed hiring QA folks βdoes more harm than goodβ.
Iβve seen enough to know that sometimes, he's right. Just not for the reasons he thinks.
If you encounter one of these in software hiring and you want me to look into it... I'm down
