Husband, father and High School English Literature teacher. I long for truth and beauty yet embrace the absurdity of the pursuit in this world.

30.05.2025 21:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first. One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish. Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my schoolβs standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didnβt diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I donβt feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points. We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Sorenβs participation in the girlsβ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are. Anelise Feldman Freshman, Yarmouth High School Yarmouth
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

13.02.2025 17:59 β π 2894 π 251 π¬ 150 π 9By taking away conversations about slavery, indigenous genocide, Japanese internment and the like, America gets to be βgreat againβ.
Why get better when we can whitewash and lower the bar?
After reading the new policy on education I understand that βmake America great againβ has little to do with actual achievements. It is really about taking away the ability to question anything in our national history that was not particularly praise worthy.

There is a code of conduct that is on every ticket and broadcast throughout the game that prohibits this kind of abusive language. A-hole could have been reported & ejected. The man decided to film it instead.

14.01.2025 03:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I just read some in depth material about Neil Gaimanβs sexual assaults and I am deeply saddened for all of the women he mistreated and the son he abused by including him in these acts. This is beyond horrendous. I donβt know how I could ever read or watch anything associated with him again.

I know next to nothing about English Football, but I feel you with this post. Every shitty season a rival team endures (after being particularly haughty) is priceless. Cheers from Philadelphia.

βIn reality, the end of the cold war and the fall of the Soviet Union were primarily the work of Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev β two consequences of his radically reformist policies (the former intended, the latter unintended).β

Reagan had nothing to do with the epic music unless you count inspiring it to be written against him and his ilk.
As for the Cold War, what exactly did we win? Maybe the Soviets just collapsed under the weight of their own corruption and failures. Reagan said a few words to condemn them. WOW.
