Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first. One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish. Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my school’s standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didn’t diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I don’t feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points. We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Soren’s participation in the girls’ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. My sister told me today that my 9 yo nephew has been looking at news articles on the internet and asked her how we’re going to survive the next 4 yrs because Trump is “taking away things like school and medicine” and honestly he’s no more misinformed than ppl that think Trump’s gonna do great stuff

As someone who regularly attends Eagles games I can say this is now rare behavior. There is a code of conduct that is on every ticket and broadcast throughout the game that prohibits this kind of abusive language. A-hole could have been reported & ejected. The man decided to film it instead.

I just read some in depth material about Neil Gaiman’s sexual assaults and I am deeply saddened for all of the women he mistreated and the son he abused by including him in these acts. This is beyond horrendous. I don’t know how I could ever read or watch anything associated with him again.

It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.

I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me.

As for the Cold War, what exactly did we win? Maybe the Soviets just collapsed under the weight of their own corruption and failures. Reagan said a few words to condemn them. WOW.
