Was recommending a friend watch the invaluable Heather Cox Richardson for her wise and sophisticated political commentary:

I was raised in a family in which the NYT was the adjudicator of reality. It's been a long few decades. Still, I've been learning. However, I must say, after careful reflection, what the holy fuckfathom have they been doing?

Wish we heard less about Mace and Boebert and more about all the Republican reps overtly, unabashedly protecting pedophiles.

Collecting these to send along to Senate Democrats. You don't need to give your name or contact info and if you do, I won't pass it along.

Hi all, would you perchance like to read my book for free?

10.11.2025 17:14 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 6    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

So baffling. And why not release a stream of partial, edited ones, so if the real one is released it's old news? And why didn't anyone in the Biden administration release bits? Out of respect for the rule of law? he asked, weeping.

I loved the article because it placed me so firmly among the cranky old men who dismiss everyone's lived experiences. "You're not seeing images you're conceptualizing that you're seeing them!"

(MRI says WHAT?)

It's fun to get my ego popped like that. The memory stuff is creepier though.

Whoa, I didn't see this coming! Is the party of 'Drown American Gov't in Bathtub' and 'Be Terrified of the US Government's Help' an enemy of the United States government?

Holy shit. Best blurb in the history of blurbing. Now I can't wait to read.

They are, and by a plurality of American voters, too--when it matters most. I'm not sure if ... damn. I just ran out of thoughts. So I guess I'll end there: I'm not sure.

Even worse, it acted as if those things were not contested. But they were, they were, they were.

The corporate media largely assumed the North's victory in the Civil War was a good thing. That slavery was bad and cruelty was also bad, even if committed by authorities. Blacks should have rights, gays should not be beaten, wives should not be raped by their husbands.

03.11.2025 20:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It paid lip service to the equality of women. I can't remember a single news item predicated on the subservience of women. I can't think of a time the corporate news overtly assumed the divinely-generated superiority of Christianity.

03.11.2025 20:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It assumed the superiority, or at least desirability, of small-d democracy instead of presenting strongman authoritarianism as an equally-valid option. That was a political stance, and one at odds with the American conservative project.

The US corporate media was pro-war and pro-wealth, voraciously pro-capitalist and rapaciously pro-vacuous, but here's how it failed to represent the right:

Even when the media supported lies about WMD in Iraq or hyper-fixated on Gore's clothing (or, ahem, her emails), it STILL elevated Democratic values and perspectives. Not always! But close. And I was so embedded in those values and perspectives that I didn't even notice.
