He was fluffed up with wool and fleece and it would have been entirely normal, given what the rest of them were wearing. Except that she remembered the previous two years, how Aziraphale’s only concession to the cold was a wool jacket rather than a linen one when he wandered about town. Otherwise, his typical dress shirt, waistcoat, and bowtie combination tended to reign supreme, varying only in the slightest nuances of similar shades. Ava had commented on it, telling him that she liked the change, that he looked very nice in it. He’d beamed with a little twinkle in his eyes and said that after he’d made a comment about feeling a little restricted, Crowley had gone out to purchase it and he’d chosen it himself and, “Oh, isn’t aquamarine the perfect color for it?”

Sex was frequent and fun, as abundant as the hope they carried between them. Positive lines appeared on those ovulation tests, but there were no lines to be had on pregnancy tests. Tiny little screens blipped a “not pregnant,” which screamed in Aziraphale's head as a “fuck you, failure.” Day by day, test by test, teasing symptoms that turned into PMS and the aching that came with each period took a tiny little bit of light out of Aziraphale, his hope diminishing.

She’d carried the other two as well, but since he’d been staying close after the first pregnancy and getting to see every phase of Crowley’s transformations, he could take note of the clues that he was thinking of shifting to her. There were no sudden impetuses to switch based on Aziraphale lifting something heavy or being more ‘masculine’ than usual, but there were signs that the change was coming anyways. And while that would usually be celebrated, the anticipation of a new chance to make a child of their love, it made him a little nervous, as he was hoping to change things up a little for their fourth. Which was why, when the kids were tucked away for the night and Crowley and Aziraphale were snug in their den, he hesitantly said, “I’ve been thinking we might try for another.” And before Crowley could say yes, he added, “And I’ve been thinking that it might be my turn to carry them.”

Notes: This prompt hits a few things, which is excellent for my WIPs collection :P One is historical setting, which was from Ineffable Family February 2025 but I couldn’t fit into my plans then. And the second is a tweet from onelastunicorn (I think during the same event but I could be wrong) talking about things she’d like to see and that is “historical marriage of convenience turned romance where an heir is needed (first comes pregnancy, then comes love! INSTEAD)”. Obviously peaked my interest! And the last thing is that I realized I had 3 ‘historical’ or at least ‘arrangement’ type things in Breedvember for Aziraphale and Crowley (all in a heterosexual relationship, but very much not all of them cis) and realized that I was missing one combo. That was trans man Crowley and trans woman Aziraphale, so obviously I had to rectify that!
