More seriously the issue is that the UK runs FPTP so unless there's tactical voting? Polling like _that_ returns a large Reform majority if it happens at an election.

On paper they aren't overly transphobic. They've not had a whiff of power ever so who knows how that'll hold up. Or how they'd do with running a country.

Kinda NIMBY, kinda incapable of balancing a budget, kinda unwilling to acknowledge tradeoffs. They're _greens_ this shouldn't be a surprise.

Oh and there are the laser enrichment experiments through to 2000 that weren't reported to the IAEA until 04. Which is a deeply sneak-out means of enrichment, even if it's slow.

Do I think they have a weapons program? No. But they retain the capability

Oh and Taiwan, yes. SK was planning a program up to '75. At this point they have deployed everything of a nuclear triad but the physics packages, and have civil nuclear infrastructure that are absolutely capable of going for weapons if they choose to.

Aparteid had made them a pariah state (along with at that point Israel and SK) and all three feared regime change by overwhelming conventional invasion.

And so they all had programs with various degrees of success

These days the amount of data available is ... Large. I mean sure you don't get precise neutron cross sections without experiment. And your equation of state will probably be wing unless you do some subcritical tests ... But unless you're going for compact two stage weapons you just don't care.

Given how federal highway money can be linked to state drunk driving laws, it should be eminently legal for the feds to link education or health funding to state behavior on this.

It's where SK, Taiwan have been historically and it's where at least a chunk of Japan's politicians want to be

We largely got them to knock it off by putting them under the umbrella and threatening sanctions; if we stop they will go back.

Liberals when candidates defend trans people: "We can't do this, it's too unpopular."

Liberals when candidates have a nazi ss tattoo: "it's ok, not all candidates are perfect."

Do y'all hear yourselves?!

WAR DEPARTMENT-WASHINGTON 25, D. C. β€’ 24 March 1945 FASCISM!
Note For This Week's Discussion:
Fascism is not the easiest thing to identify and analyze; nor, once in power, is it easy to destroy. It is important for our future and that of the world that as many of us as possible understand the causes and practices of fascism, in order to combat it. Points to stress are: (1) Fascism is more apt to come to power at a time of economic crisis;
(2) fascism inevitably leads to war; (3) it can come to any country; (4) we can best combat it by making our democracy work.

In March of 1945, the US Army issued this "fact sheet" to guide conversations with soldiers on the topic of fascism, paying particular attention to the ongoing threat that domestic fascist movements posed to the US. Their analysis of what a homegrown US fascism would look like is interesting.

Capability running logarithmic in compute is a really brutal bit of math. Especially if your only story for _excess_ profits is some winner takes all thing with a moat of some kind. Maybe it's data maybe it's compute you don't care you have to do the spending today to keep the venture money moving
