So Hitler 'earned' France, Belgium, Holland etc. Is this man a complete moron? Never mind; don't answer.

Part of the story, I agree. But you shouldn't go round thinking you are Rogue SAS and stay unpunished. Sorry.

Anti-immigration poster on the other side: "Rapes in England have gone up tenfold in last 20 years".
I: "Where's that figure from, I don't recognize it?".
He: "Grok".
Fact: CSEW: sexual assault self-reported roughly constant 2005-23.
#Musk really is quite an evil man.

Merely showing the term 'economist' covers a broad range of competencies, unfortunately. Perhaps, like a driving test, self-appointed economists would have to retake Econ101 (how does a tariff work?) before qualifying.

I'd rather listen to birdsong. Still depends where you are walking, I guess.

It went to Kissinger, remember. As the late Tom Lehrer said, political satire died that day.

So they go to an RAF base and damage aircraft. So it's just worth a slap on the hand? Conscientious objection used to be when you refused to fly the things.

BREAKING: Ukrainian President isn't wild about a deal he wasn't involved in negotiating which cedes huge tracts of his country to the occupier, including thousands of square kilometres they don't hold and which contain Ukraine's defences, in exchange for a temporary ceasefire Putin needs anyway.

Many of the columnists seemingly egging on English rioters don't even live in the UK. Private Eye again

Definite vibes of the South Sea Bubble etc. "We invite you to invest in a company, the purpose of which, we are not yet aware of".

Minor detail. We wrote 10%+fall when we meant 60%+ increase. Oops.

Or FPTP could be the system that gives Reform few seats despite, say, 20%+ in the polls. And, what kind of PR would you like instead? PR is a bit like the Brexit vote - we want to leave but can't make up our mind what we have instead. Maybe STV best scuppers extremes.

True but a lot of this is making the right noises.

And Brown introduced pension credit indexed differently from BSP causing more complexity. However even a double lock would be an improvement (however prices seem to jump disproportionately in the month where updating is assessed??)

I think 'if' rather than 'when', if that's any help. The major parties have to be brave in attacking his economic nonsense while probably giving more ground on being 'tough' on migrants. Which means overhauling the Home Office.

07.08.2025 08:01 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The worst of both worlds in the sense that Labour sold at GE that public finances needed restoring but then did silly things. Winter fuel payment is understood by population and costs peanuts whereas majority of people do not understand triple lock & making it double or even single saves lots.

Frankly, it is stupid to make commitments of the type they did about tax. Better to say as little as possible.

They would have won fewer seats for sure. But, either way they would not be in the mess that they are now in.

06.08.2025 20:05 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Labour should have been braver by lowering NI, raising income tax rates, fuel duty and getting rid of triple lock
