Especially in a world where actual criticism seems to be coming from "long form youtube video" as opposed to some sort of academic critique. Don't get me wrong, there are some *really* good video game art critics out there, but that sort of criticism usually comes years after the release.

In their defense, my understanding was the while HK was a difficult game you could overcome that difficulty with perseverance or the right setup. In Silksong if you suck at pogo there's no overcoming that, which to me suggests there's something wrong with the controls instead of intended difficulty.

So many people are being let go from their dream jobs, from building worlds and telling stories, at the same time the social safety net is maybe an hour away from being torn apart completely. It's not enough to say that gaming is suffering a "terrible loss", that's the smallest part of the issue.

I consider myself very lucky that when I was laid off in finance I had almost no commitments and no time pressure, but it was still an incredibly stressful experience. I cannot imagine what everyone who was fired at Microsoft is feeling.
