At a DC event dedicated to celebrating Jewish heritage tonight, a young couple— both of whom worked at the Israeli Embassy— was shot and killed. We are sickened by this act of murder. Terrorist violence is never justified; this is not the path to a just and peaceful future.

Please God, from the depths of this darkness, give us the strength to continue to imagine and work toward a world in which all children, Israeli and Palestinian, grow up in safety, tucked in at night without fear and heartache.

We pray for the Bibas and Lifshitz families. We pray for all of the hatufim, and their loved ones— this torture must end. We pray for all of the bereaved-– may their loved ones’ memories be a revolution.

Instead, even as we grapple with the unthinkable, violent end met by Oded, a true lover of peace, and by Kfir and Ariel, two precious, defenseless little ones, we are confronted by yet another perverse, premeditated, torturous deception. A whole nation cries out: Where is Shiri? Where is Shiri?
