Thank you! That's interesting! For some reason I thought quite a lot had changed between the two.
Lol about the cover, appropriately Victorian values being enforced by Bluesky!

Haha yes that is true! And LW gets the gold lettering as well. Still, Queen Victoria can console herself she would definitely get much bigger billing than LW were they ever to do a publicity tour together...

Thank you! I only have an old (but nice!) Everyman's Library edition. I can see it's worth getting the Penguin Classics one. But then let's get really nerdy, which edition is it? 1818 or 1831?

Yes! How interesting! I hadn't thought about how it meditates on parenthood in that way but it does, doesn't it?
I can't remember much about the female characters though, other than they end up paying the price for Victor & his monster's antics.

I do remember loving it. & being astonished that it wasn't at all what I was expecting from the depictions in film etc., so much more. Glad you're enjoying it too!

I must reread that! I loved it, but read it what 20+ years ago. In fact, I dug it out of a box of books just last week, perhaps a sign that this is the momentβ¦ Hope youβre enjoying it.

My hand holding a paperback copy of Queen Victoria: Daughter, Wife, Mother, Widow, by Lucy Worsley. There is a sumptuous William Morris-esque border in blue and gold. There is central panel features the title and author name in blue and gold lettering, also two recommendations, and a drawing of Victoria as a young woman.
I am reading Queen Victoria by Lucy Worsley. The ideal sort of history for me, who needs plenty of Story and Character in anything facty. Just dancing through it, as enjoyable as a novel.

Following The Hum was hard. I remember freezing Februarys, muddy March marching. Winds slipping passed whatever armour you had against the weather like a vorpal blade. Yet we kept walking. Pylon-to-pylon, a strange navigation, a faith in electric leys. β Signal-catcher Rose, ex Child of The Hum #VOH

"Valley of the Moon" by Remedios Varo depicts an enchanting, surreal landscape with mystical animals bathed in ethereal moonlight, surrounded by jagged mountains in the background. The artwork showcases Varo's distinct style, merging elements of mysticism and dreamlike imagery to evoke a sense of otherworldly tranquility.

A man working a plow in a field - carried by a small elephant. This detail is from Sebastian MΓΌnster's Cosmographiae uniuersalis, vol. 6, 1550.
In 1550, one Elephant Power (EP) was the equivalent of 10 Horse Power (HP).

Not sure a children's writer should be scary, so sent off a smiling one.

Yes! & even rocket-powered roller-skates would need refuelling. In a post-apocalyptic world, everyone would drink all the petrol in the first week. Bicycles are definitely best.
