Like, this is the easiest home run that's just sitting there and would actually have fundamental benefits across Australia if they just did something. But no.

I know with everything bad that's gone on that gambling might be a bit of a low target, but the complete inaction on it and the disrespect to the late Peta Murphy for not putting anything in place after she campaigned so hard has been one of the major disappointments for me.

What was your post screening conversation like?

Because when the president does it, it's not a crime.

Kalu mentioned they have some festival hopes, but no firmed up distribution plans. It'll be on SBS very soon.

Loved this film a lot and really appreciated getting to run the Q&A for it.

If you haven't already, check out his shorts. I think you'd appreciate them.

Good purchases.

Buddy Guy has an Actors Award. That's really neat.

Huh, so those union strikes were for nothing then?

Imagine feeling safe enough to say this at an actors awards ceremony.

Agreed. I don't mind Chalamet as an actor as, right now, he feels like he is still creating characters. But the person he is off screen is increasingly off putting in a way that is distracting from his on screen work.

Watching the highlights from the West Coast v Port Adelaide game and wondering when the Eagles will be good again.

I buy both. I'd love to see Coogler get Best Director to be honest. Either way, PTA and Coogler are both winning something this year.

Kate Winslet desperately wanted one and they finally gave it to her for a weak turn. Glenn Close wants it too much and still hasn't won. Diane Warren. Leo took years and he really wanted it.

The key is: don't care.

I'd say Sirat will be. It's got a lot more of a rush to see it, and has those Oscar noms too. Ann Lee will have one or two weeks, if that.

Oh, it's pretty fucking weird at times. But it's in line with the tone of the religion, if that makes sense.

Something to watch tonight: 2000 Meters to Andriivka - Funerals & Snakes Another temΒporΒary obstacle in the transΒition from Substack back to WordPress has been my health with a couple of oriΒginΒal posts styΒmied due to a brief (but frankly terΒriΒfyΒing) couple...

2000 Meters to Andriivka is on DocPlay now. It’s the subject of today’s newsletter at F&S.

Nah, it's really compelling. I loved that film a bunch. It's not trying to push anything on you - nor could it, given the religion it's about is effectively inactive now.

02.03.2026 04:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'd also argue that the actors really wanting to win Oscars aren't desirable traits for voters. That is, until the industry decides it's their time.

Both are really good on the big screen. Depends on what you want. Singing religious stuff or peak anxiety.

I really think Michael B. Jordan is winning Best Actor.

And I'm not convinced One Battle is going to win Best Picture.

I'm glad it has that impact. I know you're not alone. I didn't hate the film, I just couldn't find an entry point to enjoying it or wanting to explore it further. It was a mystery box that held no intrigue for me, unlike Inception or Memento.

Do you think that Albo, a career pollie, ever thought to throw open the doors of his room and look at the war memorial and think of those who have died, who will die, and are dying at the hands of our soldiers and allies?

Of course he didn't. He hasn't looked in a mirror in years.

02.03.2026 01:27 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

You want your leaders to question what they're doing. To reflect on their choices. Parliament House is built to imbue that reflection in the choices of leaders.

02.03.2026 01:27 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

When Albo talks about his mum, he speaks of her with love, empathy, compassion, and understanding.

The man in the video above has aspects of that. I'd like to think that he can return to that understanding, but his US-devoted support for this new war shows he has lost that essence of existence.

02.03.2026 01:27 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't know Albo's mum. But I know what Albo's idea of his mum is: a get out of jail card that says 'you can't criticise me for I know what you experience'. Albo has turned into someone noxious, but using his mum as a political tool is one of the worst.

02.03.2026 01:27 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Wonder what his mum would be thinking of him now?
