Yes, indeed! I was so blessed for Iris and the Crew to hire a sensitivity editor with two above-knee leg prostheses who is a Black woman. Her feedback meant everything to me because I loved writing Lartha. And the sensitivity editor loved her too! Yay! #WeeknightWriters

A4: I get excited when I go through the edits and know how I’m gonna make them work. I love problem-solving, and so my happy place is activated. #WeeknightWriters

Whenever I’m speaking on panels about disability representation, I say that I can very often tell the authors who care. And that it’s hard to get everything perfect because so many things change with language and terms and such. So I encourage folks to do their best. #WeeknightWriters

I do a lot of lived-experience research, ask beta readers with lived experience, get sensitive editors, and I’m still terrified of hurting people. I guess maybe I worry too much, but then I feel great when people enjoy the work! #WeeknightWriters

A3: When I’m writing a lot of representation like in Iris and the Crew, I get phobic about doing things really badly. I know the sensitivity editors are there to help me, but I still have this fear of hurting people accidentally. Hasn’t happened so far. Hyperempathy for the win? #WeeknightWriters
