We're a non-partisan coalition working to end #gerrymandering in #Pennsylvania. We want an independent #redistricting commission so voters can choose their politicians, instead of politicians choosing their voters. Learn more at https://fairdistrictspa.com

How well does PA law reflect estimates of public opinion? What wold it take to change that?
Both PA & US constitutions promise government of, by & for the people. But too often, on both the national & state level, there's misalignment between what the government does & what people want it to do.
What strategies might provide greater alignment?
democracyproject.org/posts/curbin...
No other full democracy allows politicians to draw their own districts. The closest to US process is Hungary-an electoral autocracy in which elections are held but respect for democratic norms is absent.
Even Hungary doesn't allow so few leaders as much control as PA.

Republican legislators in Harrisburg seem unaware that if the vote goes against them in 2026 & 2028, there arenβt sufficient guardrails in law to prevent an enduring partisan gerrymander after the 2031 redistricting.
@BroadAndLiberty
broadandliberty.com/2026/02/17/p...
Tell PA legislative leaders: give HB 31 and SB 131 a vote.
PA voters are tired of leaders rigging districts to protect or punish their colleagues & to block our voters' voices.
PA voters want fair districts.
2031 will be here soon. (2 of 2)

#PresidentsDay reminder: 5 former presidents and 1 former governor from across the nation and across the past 8 decades have called attention to the dangers of #gerrymandering.
PA is the most populous swing state, a top target for partisan #redistricting.
Why not fix this NOW? (1 of 2)
We're recruiting part-time paid summer interns to collect petition signatures in support of an independent redistricting commission. Open to college-aged young adults interested in law, politics, public policy or non-partisan leadership. www.fairdistrictspa.com/updates/summ...

PA's founders said "the people possess an inalienable & indefeasible right to alter, reform or abolish their government." Now we're asking to repair a system distorted by decades of self-interest.
We're asking legislative leaders: give HB 31/SB 131 a vote.
gettysburgconnection.org/pennsylvania...
@PAGOP leaders consistently resist action on bills to create an independent redistricting commission-to their own harm in 2031. If HB 31 & SB 131 don't pass this session, expect a D gerrymander yielding @PAHouseGOP & @PASenateGOP an irrelevant minority.

We just hit 130,000 PA petition signers for an independent redistricting commission.
Legislative leaders say "no one is interested in this."
REALLY?

Groundhog Day in Harrisburg: it just goes on and on and on.
Think it's time to move on to better things?
Ask legislators to stop the partisan games and give bills a vote.
Up first: redistricting reform bills House Bill 31 and Senate Bill 131.

#SuperBowl2026 Would you watch if you knew 1 side drew the lines, set the rules & decided the outcome before the game began?
No other major democracy allows political leaders to draw their own district lines.
When politicans choose their voters we all lose.
Every time.
We're proposing the PA General Assembly adopt the groundhog as their official mascot.
There's no way to count the # of substantive bills introduced again & again, session after session, without ever reaching a final vote.
It doesnβt need to be this way. www.fairdistrictspa.com/updates/grou...
Punxsutawney Phil predicts six more weeks of winter.
Maybe this year he'll be right.
Fair Districts PA and allies are asking for a vote on redistricting reform bills House Bill 31 and Senate Bill 131.
Maybe this spring that will happen.
And Tioga County is heard from! For @fairdistrictspa.bsky.social in Harrisburg on Groundhog Day. Legislators please, show support for HB 31 and SB 131.

Yet PA's avenue to amend the state constitution is among the most lengthy, and least open to public input, of any in the country.
How do we exercise the promised right to alter and reform our government?
As Ben Franklin reminded us, PA's 1776 constitution was 1st in the world to promise the people the right to amend their government. That right became a model for other states & nations.

@politico.com provides a deep dive into 2025 #redistricting saga. The electoral outcome is uncertain, as is the final stance of SCOTUS on voting rights.
But the damage to democracy itself is clear: intimidation, threats, deeper partisan division, less representation.
