I'm a Canadian-French dual citizen living in France and some of the most racist comments I see on European news media come from American MAGAs. They have the audacity to visit or even live in Europe as guests while complaining about non-white Europeans.

Gross and racist. Can't say I'm surprised.

It's a problem across the entire Anglosphere right now. A well-coordinated white nationalist movement.

I don't care about the first level of questioning. I answer with "Canada". It's the second level that ticks me off "OK, but originally?". My white Canadian or American friends in Europe don't get this question.

I do speak several 2nd languages (albeit at a B1/B2 level) and could see myself being happy to converse in them with someone who was interested. It all depends on the intent and approach.
I live in Europe and have had my fill of "But where are you originally from?" b/c "Canada" is insufficient.

I know it's difficult for folks to proceed with so many contradictory reactions. Some take offence; some are overjoyed. I'm just asking you to be mindful of the diversity of opinions, and of differences among 1st, 1.5* and 2nd generation diaspora in how they react.

My first language is English.

Canadian here. Indian parents. I do get offended at this question for two reasons. 1. White folks aren't getting asked about their heritage. 2. The implication that having a different ethnicity automatically lends me a different cultural identity. I don't have the same culture as Indian citizens.

Seeing that the UK has repeatedly extradited British citizens to the US for comparatively minor crimes (software piracy, hacking), the least they could do is demand his extradition.

I have two things in common with Joni Mitchell.
1. We regard Saskatoon, SK, as our hometown.
2. We weren't actually born in Saskatoon. (It doesn't matter).

In this era of heightened xenophobia & attacks on identities, it's important to remember that each person defines their own identity.

I have never watched one.

My definition of a super bowl is a large container filled with fresh guacamole.

Gender is irrelevant.

If you're an aggressor, you deserve what's coming to you, man or woman.

If you're a victim, you deserve support and empathy. Man or woman.

A corollary is that the most virulent anti-Indian racism emanates from people in Commonwealth realms, as opposed to non-English-speaking Western countries. It factored into my decision to move from Canada to France. I'm Canadian, not Indian, but my parents are, and I'm often mistaken for one.

Not sure it's just a blip. It's coordinated bigotry across the (white) Anglosphere. Check out the comments from (white) Australians, Canadians, Brits etc. about people of Indian ancestry. Not just Indian nationals but anyone who ever had heritage from there.

At the very least, I want to see consistency. If you (generic you) are going to refer to me by my presumed ethnicity, you need to do the same for yourselves, white folks.

Canadians, Europeans and others choosing to visit the US these days: What makes you think you won't end up in these camps?

It's not about being tired. They are bigots.

White nationalism is on a collision course (has already collided, actually) with our globalized world economy. People electing far-right governments in the West are irreperably sinking their societies economically just so they don't have to look at brown & black people. That's it in a nutshell.

Sounds like our Albertan separatist traitors in Canada. They're also trying to rope in American assistance to break up our nation.

They do in the Middle East and in some parts of India.
