I’m in no way complaining, it’s a great problem to have.

I can tell you my fics with the highest kudos are not what I would consider my best writing because they are from, what, 8-9 months ago? I’ve learned so much since then but engagement on my fics is kind of obscured by the massive flood of Caitvi fanfic being added to the library each day.

Kudos was really heavy at first following the end of the show. Over the months, readers have engaged less and less with fics overall. THEN writers went crazy writing Caitvi (yay) leaving readers with huge selections on every feed refresh and gems get buried.

So kudos is kind of a skewed metric.

It’s summer so even though they’re practising indoors with the fans on it’s still pretty damn hot and well, anyone would work up a sweat holding, tossing, and catching whole human beings. Her muscles ache in that wonderfully pleasant way after a workout. The session was good too, the spotters barely had to do anything even though they’d been working with a new flyer. “She?” Vi takes the proffered bottle, fingers closing around plastic that is blissfully cold. She tips it up, gulps greedily at the ice water, tries not to spill any but doesn’t really mind cos again, it’s hot as fuck. “Kiramman,” says Maddie, tilting her head. “It isn’t super often but when they change to defense and she comes running off the pitch I’m pretty sure she spends a good few moments looking over here when she thinks no one can see her.” Vi takes another big sip of her water, lets it sit in her mouth, rest on her tongue, cool down her teeth. She swallows and looks out through the doors of the gymnasium, out into the field. In the distance, blue specks rush each other and she can hear the whistle go, high and loud. “Huh,” she says. “That’s weird.” —
