The Safe Communities Act is a crucial piece of legislation.
But it wasn't designed to stand alone.
By refusing to provide full protections to New Jersey's immigrant communities, @govmurphy.bsky.social is allowing ICE and immigrant detention to continue terrorizing New Jersey families.
🚨 BREAKING: Earlier this morning, @govmurphy.bsky.social signed the Safe Communities Act while allowing TWO OUT OF THREE crucial bills in the immigrant protections package to die on his desk.

Senate bills are now passing, starting with Privacy Protections Act:
The Senate is on recess waiting on the Assembly who JUST passed the 3rd and final bill to codify the Immigrant Trust Directive.
But we aren't done, yall. This is just ONE chamber and now Senate has to act. Stay tuned!
Taxes are actually at the heart of this bill! NJ overpays in our state's share to the federal gov't. Meaning, we pay more in federal taxes than we receive back in federal programs.
So why should ICE get to double dip by deputizing our local & State law enforcement? That's why we need this law.
🤮🤮🤮 Ew, some lawmakers are openly airing race replacement theory:
"Look at Lakewood, look at Red Bank, look how our cities have changed. We should be protecting taxpayers, not illegal aliens!"

💥 3RD BILL IS UP: Codifying the Immigrant Trust Directive
Asm. Park introduces the bill by saying, “Immigration is civil law, not criminal. ICE agents are not following due process. We will not use our local and state resources to help ICE unless they have a valid judicial warrant.”
The Assembly board list shows 47 yay votes and 26 no votes on the Privacy Protection Act
But just like that… the Privacy Protection Act PASSES the Assembly! 🎉
If signed into law, your drivers license, license plate, student file, or library membership will no longer be used to sweep you into ICE's hands.
Advocates sit in the gallery of the assembly and grit their teeth and watch in horror as some lawmakers tie the immigration bills introduced in 2026 to 2001's 9/11.
Our legislative champions are holding strong and we... well, uh, we're holding our tongues.
Why?
As we sit here, some lawmakers are spewing racist lies about our communities and our worth.
