anyway, despite mounting credit card debt, I'm still hopeful I'll find a job before I'm forced to leave NYC. (I don't know ~how~ I'm still hopeful considering how rotted everything is rn, but I'll take whatever inexplicable positivity I can get.)

I should give a brief shoutout to @jewishcurrents.bsky.social here. I didn't end up getting the job but they at least had the decency to treat me with respect AND compensate me for my time. A mensch of a magazine!

Most of these have been pleasant enough (again, lucky!). The worst was a company that first required six rounds of interviews and then one of the most extensive edit tests I've seen. If I passed the last round, I would've needed to do two ~additional~ interviews... which what tf are we doing here?

I have applied to somewhere around 200 jobs since May and have had a whopping eight callbacks. I consider myself "lucky" — I know people have applied to twice that many and gotten zero response, despite being experienced and well-connected
