U.N. court rules countries have duty to limit greenhouse emissions
The court was asked to rule on whether nations are obligated under international law to protect the Earthβs climate from planet-warming emissions.
The United Nationsβ highest judicial body ruled that nations must prevent environmental harm and limit greenhouse gas emissions. The nonbinding decision pressures countries to fulfill climate pledges and opens doors for global climate cases.
