Sunday Morning GAERHF thread. Mood? #GlobalAntiquity

Also thinking. gaerhf:associated-pleiades-url predicate on a per object basis as grouping mechanism? Right now, GAERHF is "object based". Most records have no indication of higher-level spatial/cultural grouping. Mostly a side effect of data entry stage. How to do that well and how to express in ui?

A thread on the current state of coverage of the Arabian Peninsula in "Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure". Though I missed this one, which was staged in GitHub: gaerhf.org#female-khor-... . #GlobalAntiquity ๐Ÿงต

The guy is really bad at governing. Making a mess of it.Thatโ€™s just the facts here.

Getting done generating maps for a bit. Choose the center of your world: Alexandria (Egypt), Begram, Berenice (Egypt), Palmyra. And see how close it is to elsewhere. Something like that. <10-ish seconds to generate all four maps and easy to add other sites to the python. (Which I'm happy to share.)

Working on the little script to generate these. Definitely "vibe coding" here. Map title now indicates center. Here's Palmyra. #GlobalAntiquity

The president has no inherent powers. Congress has no inherent powers. The courts have no inherent powers. Each only has the powers granted by the Constitution and that was made by "We the People." The inherent powers are ours. (This is all pretty basic and #SCOTUS has been getting it wrong.)

Feels like itโ€™s worth noting that Trump got less than half the popular vote. Thatโ€™s becoming stale news. Heโ€™s now just an unpopular president. But yeah, last time we really checked, more people voted for someone other than Trump. There was never a mandate.

Roughing out visuals for a big picture talk on Roman Art. Two maps: Berenice on Red Sea and Begram in Afghanistan. Both sites are "nodes" in long distance exchange. 1000 km radii on an equidistant projection for each. Do territorial states matter? Sure. But also not? (Like I said, "roughing out.")

I donโ€™t mean to say youโ€™re wrong. Not at all. I was heartened by approach to a wider antiquity allowed for here. I like to think there are departments โ€“ mine included? โ€“ letting our PhD students create profiles that would be competitive for this position. 2-and-2. Part of what makes it a good job?

Battled Azure's Docker container setup. Image wasn't working. Failure at start, auto-restart cycle. Issue was my new M4 MacBook was generating an Apple Silicon specific image. Once I built with "--platform=linux/amd64" all was good. A lot of "Digital Humanities" is "Digital Plumbing". And pain. #DH

Opinion | Kathy Hochul: Why I Am Endorsing Zohran Mamdani

Iโ€™m not the biggest @governor.ny.gov fan. Her last campaign was lame โ€“ even low energy โ€“ and delaying Congestion Pricing was a low point. But she has risen to the moment many times recently, including with this endorsement: www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/o...

Here's a conundrum... What a great @peoplingthepast.bsky.social post: peoplingthepast.com/2025/09/12/b... . But as full disclosure, the author is an @isawnyu.bsky.social student. I'm her chair (my great honor). So don't believe me, go check it out. (And my congrats/empathy to Lylaah!)

Had worked well. gunicorn providing all I need within python venvs. pypi.org/project/Flask/ gunicorn.org . Also using fastapi & uvicorn ( fastapi.tiangolo.com & www.uvicorn.org ).

Iโ€™m all for a multi-polar world. But itโ€™s nice to be invited so this is pretty embarrassing for Trump, especially since he stans them all. And anyway, where is he these days??
