Sunday Morning GAERHF thread. Mood? #GlobalAntiquity
12.10.2025 14:52 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also thinking. gaerhf:associated-pleiades-url predicate on a per object basis as grouping mechanism? Right now, GAERHF is "object based". Most records have no indication of higher-level spatial/cultural grouping. Mostly a side effect of data entry stage. How to do that well and how to express in ui?
10.10.2025 17:54 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A "Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure" video.
10.10.2025 17:37 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1A thread on the current state of coverage of the Arabian Peninsula in "Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure". Though I missed this one, which was staged in GitHub: gaerhf.org#female-khor-... . #GlobalAntiquity ๐งต
09.10.2025 19:34 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The guy is really bad at governing. Making a mess of it.Thatโs just the facts here.
06.10.2025 12:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Getting done generating maps for a bit. Choose the center of your world: Alexandria (Egypt), Begram, Berenice (Egypt), Palmyra. And see how close it is to elsewhere. Something like that. <10-ish seconds to generate all four maps and easy to add other sites to the python. (Which I'm happy to share.)
01.10.2025 21:41 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Working on the little script to generate these. Definitely "vibe coding" here. Map title now indicates center. Here's Palmyra. #GlobalAntiquity
01.10.2025 16:38 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1The president has no inherent powers. Congress has no inherent powers. The courts have no inherent powers. Each only has the powers granted by the Constitution and that was made by "We the People." The inherent powers are ours. (This is all pretty basic and #SCOTUS has been getting it wrong.)
01.10.2025 16:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Feels like itโs worth noting that Trump got less than half the popular vote. Thatโs becoming stale news. Heโs now just an unpopular president. But yeah, last time we really checked, more people voted for someone other than Trump. There was never a mandate.
01.10.2025 12:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Roughing out visuals for a big picture talk on Roman Art. Two maps: Berenice on Red Sea and Begram in Afghanistan. Both sites are "nodes" in long distance exchange. 1000 km radii on an equidistant projection for each. Do territorial states matter? Sure. But also not? (Like I said, "roughing out.")
01.10.2025 05:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1I donโt mean to say youโre wrong. Not at all. I was heartened by approach to a wider antiquity allowed for here. I like to think there are departments โ mine included? โ letting our PhD students create profiles that would be competitive for this position. 2-and-2. Part of what makes it a good job?
30.09.2025 00:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is an interesting #job description from Rutgers, "Assistant Professor, Global Ancient Art, Architecture, Material Culture": arthist.net/archive/50717
29.09.2025 20:17 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Text with following reply to Cuomo campaign. โYo. I'm voting for the socialist. Don't agree with him on everything but he's shown he cares. Shown he can set the agenda for a better city.โ
My response to a text from the Cuomo campaign. Prob wonโt be read so I post it here. #NYCVotes

Zoom in and those are turkeys and deer chilling in same backyard. Seen during my bike ride on North Fork of Long Island, LI.
22.09.2025 21:56 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Battled Azure's Docker container setup. Image wasn't working. Failure at start, auto-restart cycle. Issue was my new M4 MacBook was generating an Apple Silicon specific image. Once I built with "--platform=linux/amd64" all was good. A lot of "Digital Humanities" is "Digital Plumbing". And pain. #DH
19.09.2025 13:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A thread on the work @epoehler.bsky.social and I are doing to build out Linked Open Data for Pompeii.
18.09.2025 13:18 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Iโm not the biggest @governor.ny.gov fan. Her last campaign was lame โ even low energy โ and delaying Congestion Pricing was a low point. But she has risen to the moment many times recently, including with this endorsement: www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/o...

06.09.2025 14:06 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Quick note that I've put in a bit of time to switch 2 flask apps from passenger to gunicorn. Nothing against passenger. Had worked well. gunicorn providing all I need within python venvs. pypi.org/project/Flask/ gunicorn.org . Also using fastapi & uvicorn ( fastapi.tiangolo.com & www.uvicorn.org ).

04.09.2025 14:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโm all for a multi-polar world. But itโs nice to be invited so this is pretty embarrassing for Trump, especially since he stans them all. And anyway, where is he these days??

I happen to be on Dartmouth Campus. (Personal trip to area.) A few pics from ancient Mediterranean gallery of Hood Museum. Nicely installed.
