the demand for ai engineers is complicated bc many big tech workers who are having ai forced on them through dogfooding have ethical concerns about ai, and so don't want to jump to companies where those jobs exist. and there's not as many of them as there used to be. it's all moving so quickly.

i have bipolar disorder and a physical disability. interacting with the cops is one of my biggest fears. i'm fortunate in that i am white and therefore at less risk than a poc—but i can never be able to comply quickly, or if i am having a bad mental day, i may get shot first for seeming "dangerous."

this is exactly it. the ability to quit in protest has disappeared steadily as tech became less hot, especially when automation is replacing people. my husband has only stuck with his current company because, despite hating it, there's nowhere else to quickly jump, and nobody would care if he did.

many of them know there isn't a point speaking truth to power, making demands, etc, and that they may get fired but they continue to do so because it's what's right. the letters get published, and the hope is that public pressure is always enough to push the needle in the right direction.

this, of course, depends on the size of the company and the issue of complaint—but tech has changed in such a way that you can't just easily quit in protest and find a smaller/better/etc company. the job market is rough, esp with AI replacing people's jobs quickly and recklessly.

my husband works in big tech, and it is shocking how extremely vocal and angry workers are, the leaks to the press are at lightning speed, etc. however, i'd say that the actual need for consent has changed over the years; the anger has increased but response from leadership has decreased.

scientology does not have the reach to blacklist you as an actor anymore, but they sure do have aggressive ways of stalking you, harassing you, and trying to financially ruin you.
