Most U.S. coal plants will stay open, energy secretary says The administration of President Donald Trump is in discussions with utilities across the country to keep their coal-fired power plants online longer, and expects that the majority of those plants that are scheduled for retirement will delay closure, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told Reuters.

In the midst of the AI boom, energy needs are being used as a shield in favour of continued use of coal power plants - this is regression, not progress.
