I see we're getting another lesson in "don't rely on foreign oil and gas as your main energy source". You'd think that after Russia's invasion of Ukraine the penny would have dropped world wide, but it appears not. Time to really start installing those #renewable generators and grid scale batteries.

The SWT guy said.
"I could have offered to amend your ticket before SWT was nationalised , but now I am no longer allowed to "
When I said
" I thought nationalisation was about putting customers first?
He said "it will over 20 years".
I said "I am 65 !!"
🤷♂️🤷♂️

Despite the large-scale instability in the Middle East, the prices of wind and sunshine remain unchanged.

You know what the US expenditure on a military adventure in the Middle East really is?
It's the money they could have spent on having a proper free at the point of use national health service.

The River Avon was pretty high and moving fast when I crossed it this morning. As I don't think it rained much here yesterday it's probably run off upstream to the east.

Some people such as yourselves age gracefully into beauty.
Others (looking at myself), er, don't.
You're both doing something right!

Alt: a cartoon character is sitting in a chair with a lamp and a clock on the table
Well it's not yet 9pm and I'm already in bed. Not because I'm tired or ill, but because I fear my aching legs and hips would complain too much if I left getting up off the sofa and shuffling up the stairs too much longer. I know I've had some physical activity today!

Cleared allotment bed end with a hoe and fork stuck in the ground, a canvas trug sitting near the fork and two wooden planks I knelt on.
And then on to the main job for today's #allotment visit: clearing annual weeds and some couch grass from what will be a potato bed in a month or so. Doesn't look like a big area (ok, it wasn't a big area) but my knees and shoulders are going to let me know I've cleared it tomorrow!

Green garlic leaves poking up through a white net
The same bed with the net removed, mulched with rotting wood chip and covered with gooseberry twigs.
Glad my #allotment chum John stopped by for a chat because he noticed my garlic had shot up and was beginning to poke up through the netting!
I carefully removed the netting, mulched between the rows with wood chip and then covered with spiky gooseberry prunings (which I was a bit late doing!).

Weeded chard and spinach beet bed, with hand fork and trowel stuck in the ground in the foreground, and two clean rows behind where shallots now lurk in the ground.
Planted two rows of shallots at the #allotment, then spent an hour weeding one of the chard and beet beds next to it. Spring is definitely starting to spring here because 80% of the weeds were juvenile sticky bud (aka sticky willy and other names depending on what part of the country you hail from).

YouTube video by Simon Clark
India is taking a shortcut
An interesting video from @simonoxfphys.com on how economic development in India, and hopefully other rapidly developing Asian nations, is taking a different, less fossil fuel heavy path to places like China and USA. Lots of @carbonbrief.org & @ember-energy.org data used.

Today is one of those days when I'm feeling a bit under the weather, and just want to lay in bed most of the morning then flop onto the sofa for the rest of the day with paracetamol and videos.
Which thankfully as I had nothing booked in for today I can do. 🤒😴

So two take homes from watching that:
a) the UK government needs to seriously up it's game on ecosystem protection and climate change. "Going for growth at all costs" may be aim for long term decline.
b) someone needs to take the camera feed and zoom controls away from their production staff!

Wasn't there a new lot set up recently that had been kicked out of Reform? Restore Britain? I don't think I'd want them either. Nor Badenoch's version of what remains of the Conservatives.

A plumber recently qualified in plastering becoming an MP is great, not only from the hope-vs-hate position but also because I remember reading the Houses of Parliament are falling down with leaky pipes. Having someone on committee who knows what they're talking about might get stuff fixed properly!
