No need to! The remake made it so you can go back during series of battles, unlike in the original where you could soft lock your progress due to a difficulty spike and no way to leave and grind when this battle occures!

I was...lvl 60+ monk back in the day when I first played. 😅 I had no idea he was difficult until years later when I got internet access. I loved the jokes and memes tho!

I would attempt that in the original but not in the remake xD not before i see how much it changed.
I do plan to dive in with tactician mode tho!
