What’s ‘good for you’ may not be what someone else thinks is good for you—but what do you know about what’s good for someone else?

What’s ‘good for you’ at one moment you may decide at a later time is not—but how are you going to know the future? Others may intervene with advice…

Unsettling for several reasons.

Among them: I believe we humans always have our own reasons for doing the voluntary things we do, in that moment. Before intervening (for their own reasons) adults should think twice. It *may* be helpful to explore.

Isn’t it though? Not least because some politicians have been airing ideas that ‘too many people are economically inactive because of ‘mental health’ issues’. And of course because of the wider political climate that seeks to impose a ‘less tolerant’ view of the atypical, odd and weird among us!

For sure. At the same time, you could understand that—given her suggestion that ‘autism’ may be a condition that ‘should’ be detectable at a rather young age—some people and parents of people ‘with a diagnosis’ from knowledge current 10-20 years ago may feel…uneasy?

From the article it seems that many teachers may understand what each individual needs without waiting for a ‘diagnosis’. I suppose this could risk being the thin end of a wedge of which the thick end turns out to be *no-one* getting any diagnosis?

This is to say little more than that all individuals are different from each other, isn’t it? Experts see so many observations that they *are* able to detect patterns, where individuals appear to resemble each other in meaningful ways.

Anyhow, I bristle at ‘pathology’ and ‘disorder’ here.

It’s at least questionable whether stating that “you were swept up by something is the same as “admitting you were wrong”.

Slightly unsettling: the view that something a child feels is good for them (ear defenders) may ‘in fact’ not be good for them .
