Cleaning up encampments from highway rights of way is actually a pretty good thing to do. It's unsafe for people to be there and can cause significant damage to public infrastructure as well

He's also taken action on encampments, signed a lot of good housing bills, stood up for trans people (especially kids), and done some pretty forward-looking things on water management/drought resilience that I think will pay off in the future

I don't know why it's a universally accepted article of faith that "Gavin Newsom sucks", when he has been a pretty good gov, specifically:
- handled COVID better than basically any other large state
- CA economy booming
- kept Diablo Canyon open
- done good things on wildfire prevention/response
