I think, ironically, the Rangers helped kill the double-retention trades when they did all that bullshit in 2022 to make sure they could make the Patrick Kane trade work. Which included dressing Braden Schneider and not playing him for multiple games leading up to it.

The NHL nuking "double-retention"/ three team trades for some amorphous reason, as well as installing an idiotic playoff salary cap, is probably playing a big factor as to why there haven't been any trades yet.
