Forcing our immigrant communities to live in fear and pushing them into the shadows does not promote public safety. Over 30 million license plates are read by OPD Flock cameras each month, and drivers deserve to have their data protected to the fullest extent of the law. (3/4)

Congratulations to Oakland’s 52nd Mayor. The Town is in good hands.

It was an honor to attend Mayor Barbara Lee’s Inaugural Celebrations in East Oakland at Liberation Park and in the beautiful Jack London Square.

The events highlighted Oakland’s rich culture, resilience, and community power and marked the beginning of a new season with Mayor Lee leading the way.

Senator Padilla is a friend and a leader I’ve long respected for his service to our community. This is shameful.

I’m horrified to see our Senator tackled and handcuffed for representing our state. If this is how this administration is treating our elected officials in front of the press, we know they are acting even more brazenly toward our vulnerable communities behind closed doors.

Dr. Boomer’s legacy will live on through the lasting impact of his community service, his heart for people, and in the soul of the Castlemont High and Oakland communities

Dr. Marvin Boomer Jr. should still be with us today. I am grateful to his family for allowing me the honor of uplifting his legacy on the Assembly floor this week. There are no words that can soften the blow of such an incredible loss.

Immigrants are the backbone of our communities and our economy. These are our tíos, our tías, our students, and our friends. Chaos isn’t being brought by them but by ruthless federal agents.
President Trump must de-escalate.

I am sickened to see the cruel, brutal, and inhumane ICE raids affecting Angelenos today, including the violent detainment of SEIU CA President David Huerta. This isn’t about law and order but sowing fear into our communities. We must demand justice and accountability.

Team Bonta is breezing through House of Origin Week. We’re advancing bills to protect reproductive care, tackle the school-to-prison pipeline, promote affordable housing, respond to federal threats, and more. I look forward to continuing to advance our East Bay priorities in the Senate!

Today, we welcomed Mayor Barbara Lee to Sacramento to honor her lifetime of service on the Assembly floor. Collaboration across levels of government will be crucial for the success of Oaklanders and Californians across the state. It was a pleasure to have Oakland’s 52nd Mayor in the house!

AB 1376 passed the Assembly floor. Our youth deserve evidence-based policies that will set them up for future success, not endless cycles of interaction with our justice system. I appreciate the support of my colleagues and look forward to continuing to advance this conversation.

I often refer to nonprofits as the third arm of government, and The Unity Council lives that each day as they provide vital services to Oaklanders and residents across the East Bay. It was my honor to ensure their hard work was recognized.

It was great to have The Unity Council at the Capitol to recognize them as our AD-18 nonprofit of the year.

Here’s the truth: the big bill you’re hearing about from DC will cut vital services like SNAP to give billionaires a tax break. Republicans know by adding hurdles to access SNAP, they can kick millions of working-class Americans who rely on this program off of these benefits and onto our streets.

Graduates, I invite you to go forth and write the future of your communities. Create a destiny that includes justice, peace, and freedom for all. Create a future that Oakland will be proud of.

Congratulations to Merritt College’s class of 2025! Thank you for allowing me to serve as your commencement speaker tonight. Your hard work has paid off, and you have climbed a mountain that may have once felt insurmountable.
