One "exclusive" thing I might like are autographs, but would any of the big names (or even smaller names) even bother to autograph copies of what they're selling or what you bring there? Have half a mind to bring some of what I already own to do so, but only if there's some chance of such charity.

C106 will be happening on August 16-17. I'll be in Japan from the starting weekend of FGO Fes to 8/18... Biggest reasons why I'd be willing to travel there for this hellish period really. 😅 Beyond that and Osaka World Expo, it's been a harder than expected planning out my itinerary.

(Redrop decided to skip this summer though!)

In a literal sense, people can't live on bread alone; missionaries cognizant of this fact and its literal implications, for example, build/fund schools and infrastructure for daily necessities. It is a shame that there isn't better widespread stewardship (like with those excessive cuts to USAID).

That's breezy culture war stuff; when thinking of earthly costs within American borders, I'm thinking financial, like that which has led to impoverishment of church planters. But mostly, I'm referring to martyrs & underground churches abroad, anywhere b/w sub-saharan Africa to parts of East Asia.

Half-thinking that since my cheap, capsule-like accommodations at the U-Neru Onsen are "only" 3km out from Makunari Messe, maybe I could walk or ride a rental bike... And other half-thinking that'd be a mistake!

If you still call it selfish even then, then that's where basic evangelism, where spreading "the good news", shows its heart in Catholic & Protestant traditions alike. Yeah, I more or less am, thank you! Have even been less active on twitter/bsky more than usual. Maybe I'll make at least some noteworthy posts of my own before long-- actually have plans to be in Japan for both FGO Fes & Comiket in a few weeks, so that'll be fun if not humid af (or so I hear).

(If not a blithe joke or a straw man, that's quite a presumption to castigate countless leaders of countless religious congregations for.) In any case, however poor a witness a modern leader may prove themselves, that mustn't necessarily entail disattachment from the greater bedrock of their faith.

It's because I fundamentally disagree with those premises. Having grown up in the church for 34+ years, being involved in countless ways, and knowing the fellowship of my sister and others (esp. when both live-at-home parents died since '19) those matters could be no further from my lived experience

That'd get no more political traction than Beto's once-upon-a-campaign promise to put taxes on churches, and prove no less incendiary. Thankfully Catholic and SBC church bodies have been more accountable and forthcoming about abuse, at least.
