The BEST. I've been doing manuscript/screenplay evaluations for 20 years (freelance) and it's so gratifying to support writers, especially when they have unique, potent stories to tell.

Controversial from the POV of should-these-places-be-preserved, I mean.

Disgraceful! We have similar place in Rhode Island (though not a plantation) but they educate people abt slave trade through tours, exhibits, visiting lecturers, creative writers residency, annual Frederick Douglass event, Juneteenth healing ceremony & celebration. Still controversial but not hidden

Someone's tweet: "Finally watching the last episode of Adolescence. Got to say, it's a bold choice for a drama to go with the idea that the real consequence of a girl being murdered is that the killer's dad might feel a bit sad about it."

Someone's tweet: "Finally watching the last episode of Adolescence. Got to say, it's a bold choice for a drama to go with the idea that the real consequence of a girl being murdered is that the killer's dad might feel a bit sad about it."

I knew someone - probably plenty of someones - would have this take. A zillion crime shows portray the impact on a victim's family. Part of the point of Adolescence is showing the impact on the killer's family. Stunning that this goes over people's heads. Anyway, episode 4 absolutely gutted me.

@bsky.app Since the Govt has now said it's using social media to identify folks with dissenting views, will you change your functionality to allow people to delete past comments? Otherwise their safety is at risk.

I really loved it too. I think the (understandable) media spectacle of the hidden apartment didn't uncover what the film's messaging was - that art and life can be inextricable, that artists are not frivolous but intentional as evidenced by the tape art projects the installation seemed to support.

Slime molds have things to teach us. That a being can change but at the same time remain itselvesโ€”to use Octavia Butlerโ€™s phrase. That there is life and beauty in rot, in decay, in decomposition, in the ashes. That a hallmark of life is evanescence and ephemerality. That our limited, Romantic understanding of the worldโ€”โ€œew, slimeโ€โ€”is outdated. That nonhierarchical, nonbinary being is part of the reality of the world.

apropos of absolutely nothing today, this article by Lucy Jones on the nonbinary nature of slime is an excellent and beautiful read

I just love this figure from @jksteinberger.bsky.social in their paper on "Discourses of Climate Delay".

You can find all the arguments of your colleagues and influencers taking the world in the wrong direction.

Perhaps we need another paper rebutting each?

I agree about the cruelty. And you're probably right about the rest. Still baffled why countries of origin wouldn't take their own citizens back. Gather there's also some kind of money making scheme involved in the detention centers. Just UGH. Sick.

19.02.2025 02:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Horrific. Why would they want to keep people detained vs. releasing them in other countries? I would say it's to scare future migrants away with particularly cruel punishment, but this is so far out of sight. So...?
