The Board of Immigration Appeals *again* chooses to publish a case where the immigrant didn't have a lawyer.

Because why consider thorough briefing on an issue as simple as... the categorical approach where there's a textual mismatch regarding the isomers of a drug?

True that it could have but also likely wouldn’t have happened under administrations that recognize that it’s incredibly wasteful to charge a case that will almost certainly result in a grant of cancellation of removal. And if they did charge it they would just make him go to nondetained court.

All while gleefully talking up those new bonuses coming their way.

Marco Rubio, Stephen Miller, Kirsti Noem, Joseph Mazzara, Emil Bove, Drew Sargent, and everyone else involved in planning, executing, and obstructing justice around the CECOT imprisonments are responsible for Andry's torture and rape.

Each bears a share of the blame. Don't ever let them forget it.

We’re hearing more and more stories in Colorado of local law enforcement violating state law to attempt to engage in federal immigration law enforcement. Very happy to see Attorney General Weiser step up to show it won’t be tolerated.

Immigration arrest outside Oregon preschool rattles parents Parents at a preschool in Oregon are reeling after immigration officers arrested a father in front of the school.

“More than anything we want to express how unnecessarily violent and inhumane this was,” she said. “Everyone felt helpless. Everyone was scared.”

(Violent, inhumane, helpless and scared is their goal for all of us.)

Oh I agree this wasn’t the plan. But it’s ultimately what happened

Country A accepts obligations to protect refugees and asylees.
⬇️
People flee repressive govt from country B, seek protection in country A.
⬇️
Country A detains them w/o looking at their asylum claims, has them jailed/beaten by contractors, trades them back to country B.

We should be a pariah state

So ultimately people, many of whom waited to enter w/ an appt on the CBP One app and had pending asylum applications were renditioned to another country’s torture prison to be used as leverage in negotiations for the release of political prisoners… from the very govt they’d been seeking asylum from.

I am so thrilled that he and the others are out. Genuinely. But many were seeking asylum from Venezuela and that’s where we ultimately sent them (following months of torture). What a mess.

It would have created an obstacle for the immigrant he defrauded but maybe that would have been overcome. But the attorneys on the hundreds or thousands of other cases he handled would have no way of knowing whether a disgraced forger ICE attorney been involved in *those* cases.

Imagine if former ICE attorney Jonathan Love never had to enter an appearance in his cases.

Irish tourist jailed by Ice for months after overstaying US visit by three days: ‘Nobody is safe’ Exclusive: For roughly 100 days, Thomas says he faced harsh detention conditions, despite agreeing to deportation

Detention as the unthinking default means locking someone up for 100 days instead of just letting them get on the outbound flight they’ve already agreed to.

Countless similar stories around the country.

"We share this story not because it is unique but because it is becoming normal. This type of kangaroo court, where the appearance of justice is kept by patient, robed individuals scheduling fictitious future court dates, betrays the dignity of our migrant brothers and sisters."

How could there be exigent circumstances? The person is already in detention.

Fitting that Stephen Miller is walking the McCarthy path of calling anyone who stands up to him a communist. Like McCarthy, Stephen Miller will be remembered as a utter disgrace. The only question is how much damage he’ll inflict before his downfall.

ICE handcuffs 71-year-old grandmother, a U.S. citizen, at San Diego immigration court Barbara Stone was handcuffed and held by federal agents for hours, according to her family; she was accused of pushing an ICE officer, which she denies.

When I say most people are good and we are going to beat these fascists, people like this woman are why I feel so confident:

“The message that it sent was very clear: For us to be afraid to come back and do the work that we’re doing,” Mendez said.

Stone, however, said she would volunteer again.”

This week, ICE illegally denied me entry into a processing facility in my district, and today, they released a statement saying I “[gave] the appearance of a political stunt intended to generate publicity rather than pursue genuine oversight.”

I have some thoughts.🧵

To be clear, being 1) a Hispanic person, 2) outside a Home Depot, 3) in Los Angeles, 4) who walks away from a government agent is NOT an "articulable" fact indicating that they have violated ANY LAW. We have a right to remain silent.
