Take "elite" academia's culture of cruelty, which stems from the fact that faculty rewards for research far exceed those for teaching/mentoring, especially at the PhD level where students don't pay tuition. In that context, faculty have incentive to be sh*tty mentors, except to a few "winners." 2/

I’ed love to see @theatlantic.com run someone like @polphilpod.bsky.social‘s article on the people who were *correct* about the dangers of rising fascism but laughed at. Our elite media rewards cautious (and wrong) pundits and shuns us folks who were right.
