1/ Last year, 32 people died while in federal detention, making it the deadliest year for the agency in more than two decades. Two weeks ago, Renee Good was killed by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Today, Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, was killed by federal officers in the same city.

Atlanta DSA is entering the most consequential moment in our history. We have to meet this moment. For Atlanta DSA's officer elections, we're running experienced organizers with a record of success leading efforts to build our party, build worker power, and win real change for working people!

So glad to see Councilmember @kelseabondatl.bsky.social and others push back against the blanket TAD extension (until 2055!). Some good organizing going on against The Atlanta Way and a policy that would hurt schools and accelerate inequality.

Hopefully this delay will lead to defeat.

Silicon Valley's capture of our political institutions is all but complete The tech lobby kills off two key California AI bills, and why it matters. Plus: How Sam Altman played Hollywood with Sora 2, organized mass social media deletions, and more.

CA governor Gavin Newsom vetoed both of the major AI bills on his desk that Silicon Valley meaningfully opposedβ€”one making it illegal for bosses to use AI to fire workers with no oversight, one requiring chatbot sellers to ensure their products do not harm children before marketing to them.

But why aren’t there more influencers with Piker’s size, reach, and most importantly, impact on the left? In part, it comes down to who the Democratic and Republican establishments choose to back.

"Part of the role of folks like myself is to critique power and present ideas on how to wield power more for the benefit of folks like us, working-class people,” Jack β€œRiverboatjack” Gardener, a trans political streamer, told Aftermath. β€œThat's just not really where the Democratic party has its goals right now. ... I think they are afraid of tapping into something that is too real, the kind of thing that Bernie Sanders tapped into in 2016. They are afraid of activating that base because it kind of ruins their ability to reach out to their big money donors, and they aren't bringing enough to the table on the merits of their own policy to actually back up that kind of shift in how to approach politics and communications."

liberals want their own joe rogan, but the truth is, there's already a left-leaning content creator ecosystem. the dem establishment just chooses to ignore big names like hasan piker in favor of decrepit institutions like msnbc and the new york times

That Vonnegut "custard pie" quote has always annoyed me so I looked it up. In the full context, Vonnegut wasn't saying that anti-war art is a waste of time, he was saying that TV distracted people from political art www.alternet.org/2003/01/vonn...

Also, if anyone mentions that mass deportations are popular, remind them that people think it means β€œkick out the bad people only.” When you tell voters what mass deportations entails β€” breaking up families, internment, rounding up people here for years β€” it suddenly becomes a very unpopular idea.

My bday is this week and it feels wrong to celebrate but I’m going to take advantage of the algorithms and promote a fundraiser for a great organization: El Refugio at Stewart Detention Center. Please give if you can.
