I liked MINORITY REPORT more of the Spielberg/Cruise double feature, but while that was also a solid critical and commercial success it was a more modest one.

Fair enough - not to proud to admit that a lot more people agreed with you than me. And to be fair to Spielberg, at that point in the game nobody had any excuse not to know the sometimes exasperating sentimental Daddy issues bullshit was part of the deal. Not a bad film by any measure.

What gets me is that H.G. Wells' original novel is still a total banger after 127 years. It should be impossible to fuck up source material this solid, but so many people have managed to prove me wrong wth sadistic persistence.

Much as I did not like the Spielberg War of The Worlds with Tom Cruise and a Fanning whose dialogue consisted entirely of high pitched squealing, I have to admit that had a string of undeniably spectacularly staged set pieces to powerfully dilute the stupid.

I take antisemitism seriously enough that I don't think anyone should get a free pass for using false charges of this vile, hateful prejudice as a political cudgel.
