The blocking off part is the hardest. There are too many interruptions and distractions (like being here). Once you get into the actual searching/reading zone, it can be a wonderful reminder of how things used to be in days gone by, and probably very effective :)
31.07.2025 09:20 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This just reflects the current publishing/academic landscape & I'm positive you're not alone in this. It's now impossible to stay up-to-date as a PI.
My approach, imperfect in many practical ways, is to block off at least a couple of days to a week, just to do the old-fashioned search, filter, read.
Seriously folks, ordinary readers in Britain need to know more about who will be the next leader of the Green Party than they do about another mass shooting in the US

Not a bad temporal paradox to find oneself in.
Teams heading onto the pitch at Tannadice Park for Dundee United v UNA Strassen in a UEFA Conference 2nd round qualifier. Supporters arms held in the air, waiting in anticipation for a thrilling 1-0 win for the Terrors against a mediocre team from Luxembourg. United were honking. It's as if the manager doesn't actually want us to win games. Loved it anyway!
Scotland is a land of contrasts.
I can get an electric bus that picks me up in an Edinburgh suburb, 5 mins walk from my childhood home, then drops me off in Dundee, and feels like I'm living in the future.
Then I walk past the Victoria Bar on the way to Tannadice. Instantly transported back in time.

a new study found that experienced open source programmers became 19% less efficient when they used AI tools, because they spent more time prompting and reviewing AI generation output than they saved on coding.

Surely there's an AI-bot for that?
(True story: only time I've used AI/LLM academically was to reduce word count for a proposal summary, after several attempts to edit it down by humans. It increased the word count at first attempt. Buyer beware?)

(I can say that. I'm Scotch.)
And not a word about reducing the need to travel by car in the first place.
EVs may be a part of the picture of decarbonisation, but many journeys need to switch routinely to public transport, walking or cycling, so fewer people feel forced to use a car to get around - that needs investment too.

Employer: Lol. 450 word application to see if we will let you attend!
