This, in addition to my children staying up too late and the American empire collapsing, is why I'm not sleeping great lately.

I think I've got the second iteration, I'm gonna guess 2009. Solid kit.

I wish I could remember what it felt like to hear SDRE's "How It Feels to Be Something On" the first time.

The many-eth time is still transporting. πŸ’™

I bought my first computer in 2000, a PowerBook G3.

25 years later, having returned my university-owned MBP, I find myself without a Mac for the first time in my adult life. Instead, I have a slightly aging refurbished Dell XPS. At least Win11 Pro is pretty solid?

This new life feels weird.

Oh, yeah, I've long wished for an entire semester-long class devoted solely to engraving. Musescore's progressed by leaps and bounds, but the ease of use and out-of-the-box quality of engraving is still pretty late-90s Finale. But with serious time and attention, it can make very good results.

How long will season one of Bluesky last? I'd love to see it settle into its own unique microblog/social network identity instead of feeling like almost-Twitter and sorta-not-Facebook.

That has the downside of more or less locking students in to a commercial program post-graduation, though. If that's the route they choose, cool, but I stopped requiring Sibelius (or even using it in our mustech classes) a few years ago for that reason. For lessons, export to musicxml works fine.

This is as good a first post as any, I think.

I just gave my last lecture as a composition professor. I don't know what or how to say or feel.

In upside-down-and-backward world, I think it's just a side hustle.
