Since this piece was published, several high-powered state lawmakers have said, in as many words, "we'll see about it," and the national AAUP has condemned the appointment. www.chronicle.com/article/amid...

Big news about the Trump administration loosening restrictions on marijuana to treat it similarly to some painkillers.
Last year, I wrote about how the rescheduling of marijuana could open up opportunities for campus research. You can read that here:

This is a thoughtful and well-researched piece (featuring quite a few higher ed faculty members, including me) on the growth of most SEC universities. The reasons behind this growth are complex.
www.chronicle.com/article/the-...
Me & my friends had thoughts!!
Kicker: "Baker grew up in VA & lived in the South most of her life. She finds it astounding that anyone would think of a public university in the South as apolitical. 'No one who lives in the South,' she says, 'believes that Southern universities are not political.'"
UVa asked its community members to give feedback on Trump's compact, and they delivered ... an overwhelmingly negative reaction. Should UVa agree, wrote one person, “I will harbor nothing but ill will for this Board and this school."
We got the records. Read more: www.chronicle.com/article/uva-...
