Love to emphatically vote YES for the parks levy and basically any other social good funded with property taxes. I don’t own a house and never will, it doesn’t matter to me. You say, oh, well won’t your landlord raise your rent? Baby, my landlord raises the rent no matter. πŸ’πŸΌ

Why Biden’s White House Press Secretary Is Leaving the Democratic Party Karine Jean-Pierre feels that Democrats were so mean to Biden that she is becoming an Independent.

Kinda crazy that no matter who is in the White House, they always manage to hire press secretaries that have literal rocks for brains

September and October are always the most intense work months of my year where I’m working 10-18 hour days, so I get to enjoy a naturally sharp decrease in my media consumption, which would be fine if crazy bad shit didn’t always seem to happen around now.

Honey Don’t! was really fun. It was like going to the movies in 2005. Classic Coen-esque setup of dumb criminals in a small town, charming actors, great sets and costumes, and a tight 89 minute runtimeβ€” hard to ask for more at the theater anymore.

Perhaps it speaks poorly of me and my deep-seated distrust of the internet information ecosystem anymore but if the last week(years??) has taught me anything it’s to spend a few minutes researching a person before blindly reskeeting/reposting their content

The one kinda upshot of being terminally online is that you’re not for one second fooled by the reputation laundering attempt of Chris Rufo writing a twee puff piece about the beauty of train travel and posted by the Free Press in IG-digestible slides, unlike, well, many of my Instagram friends

A completely zero stakes annoyance of mine is that for its bespoke short-linking domain name, NYT chose to deliberately misspell it as nyti[.]ms using the ccTLD for Montserrat instead of nytim[.]es using the ccTLD for Spain.

More than four out of five Americans, 83%, said they were concerned about the cost of groceries, with 46% saying they were very concerned. Some 47% said they were worried about being able to pay their rent or mortgage, 64% said they were worried about affording an unexpected medical expense.
About 48% said they believed they would have trouble affording an unexpected $500 bill without borrowing. One in four said it would be "very difficult"
A quarter of those surveyed said they spent at least three hours a day worrying about their finances and ability to afford basic necessities. Another 25% of respondents said they or someone in their household had skipped meals in the past year in order to make ends meet, and 26% said they had fallen behind on their monthly bills over the past year.

And like yes he has been very steady with his support of IS, but if you look at that within the whole scope of his career and votes it makes evident these choices sit outside a fairly ideologically consistent record. (Maybe not that β€˜05 yea for suspension of habeus corpus tho, that was fucking wild)

I think history will say that Wyden was a fairly influential/important politician given his steadfast work on some heavy wide-reaching issues like internet freedoms, govt surveillance, etc but damn if this isn’t one of the handful of very baffling positions/votes he’s made in his tenure.
