This is not a single solution. It's not the only thing that matters. But in the classroom, it has to be the priority (after safety). Schools must prioritize student learning, and that means classrooms.

This is the weirdest I'll ever get. But if we, the true-believers of the gift and power of public education, would ignore the nonsense narratives, put our heads down, and accept we can and have to help students learn, we could really improve education.

They are going to come at you with fads, and mandates, and all sorts of things and you must hew to the mantra: A classroom is for learning. That has to be your priority.

These are our classrooms and we are the greatest influence on the learning that takes place. That should not be a back-handed critique from admin. It should be a flag you take up within your room.

Also, "Make It Stick" by Roediger, McDaniel, and Brown. There's others, but these two will shift your thinking.

I will tell you right now if you read this and think "But it's harder than that" but also are thinking "but what if I COULD teach all my kids" get out and read some books. I suggest "Why Don't Students Like School" by Daniel Willingham all the time. It radicalized me to better instruction. #EduSky

I would like my fellow teachers to both stop putting in the after-hours work AND take more responsibility for learning in the classroom. We have such a hard time with nuance as a world, and its evident in the classrooms as well. But if you have sharp lessons, you'd be surprised at what you can do.

I guess I sort of know why, but why can't locals band together to try and create more localized news media outlets? Old school newspapers and radio stations? I guess the startup costs must be insane. But it feels like the monopolies are separating from the main populace. We could undercut.

Just imagining this guy at work the next day describing trick or treating like it's a weird thing that happened and his co-workers like "Yeah, Bob, they were trick or treating. Everyone does it on Halloween, what's wrong with you?" and him refusing to believe it's common.

I like being outside doing something, is a big part of it. And I like wading in water. But I absolutely hate catching fish and removing hooks because I'm kind of a chickenshit about it.

I'm jealous of people who love fishing. I grew up fishing but never got into it. It's fine. But it looks like something that's really awesome to be super into, and I'm not. Does anyone else have hobbies they know they don't like, but sort of wish they did?
