If there’s a cover-up, it’s on the lower levels to cover up that (a) a guard was not where they were supposed to be & nobody noticed or (b) they were violating policies/laws knowingly bc they didn’t have the people/budget/will to care. Something like don’t tell them we skip checks every night.

Yeah, if I’m a prison guard 1000% I’m not taking that offer. 15 years ago my partner was one bc they were so understaffed they made deputies work it before going out. He had mandatory doubles with zero warning and the smell was so bad & clingy he’d undress in the garage. Prison/jail are terrible…

But how do we have a democracy when one side decides that, rather than changing their policies or working to convince voters of them, they hide their positions and lie about their intentions until someone comes along and just does it anyway?

Of course, they haven’t thought it through. What happens when your theories mean POTUS can attack you? A domestic abuser should have a gun? When citizens lose faith in government bc it only passes wildly unpopular policies? What happens when all the laws are flat and the devil turns on you?

Honestly we have covered up how violent this country was and how bloody every single fight to improve rights has been. The violence everywhere is mindboggling.

My impression has been the Saudis have wanted US/Israel to take down Iran w/o them so they lose a rival with zero cost or consequences for the Saudis. But did they not plan for Iran to know that or for Iran to view this as a “whelp, smoke em if you got em” moment? (Note: I’m not a specialist here)

Middle East folks-I think the lesson since 2000 has been if you don’t have nukes you should get one. Is there any reason to think that either Iran wouldn’t take any pause or de-escalation to do whatever they could to get one or that the Saudis/Israelis wouldn’t think that’s a danger and pause too?…

I’m assuming you’re going for something public health/epidemiology related which is still pretty terrible. I just wished I focused on something like experimental archeology. Building a cathedral by hand seems relaxing compared to hoping NATO lasts till at least the week we’re supposed to cover it :)
