We'll be posting about Bonnie's amazing life, spirit, and legacy in the days ahead. For now we hope you will be comforted to know that she passed very peacefully here at Merrymac with belly full of treats, surrounded by people who adored her.

We are heartbroken to announce that we had to say goodbye to our beloved Mayor Bonnie today. We’re still emotionally very raw so we hope everyone can be patient and give us a little time to gather our thoughts about her loss before we post a full update.

We keep explaining to Eli that pigs can't hibernate the winter away but every day he tries to bury himself in hay and do it anyway. 🤷‍♀️

We are so grateful, but not just for the pumpkins themselves of course. It means the world to us knowing that so many people from our community spent their time and energy coming together to make this happen. It fill our residents' bellies AND our hearts.

From out smallest bird resident to our huge highland cows, most of our residents love pumpkin. Baby Phoenix will even show you how to loosen up the seeds and flesh with your hoof for easier snacking.

In Vermont we have our own version of the Nextdoor app called Front Porch Forum. A couple in Burlington sent out a request on FPF asking if people had pumpkins they wanted to donate to Merrymac and oh boy did they get a huge response! (photos from www.instagram.com/kaitykodz/)

We had the most amazing, love-filled day yesterday thanks to our community. An entire neighborhood came together to collect and deliver over FIVE HUNDRED pumpkins to our residents!

Honey came to us two years ago in an advanced state of starvation and neglect, so she is followed closely by our vets. Her regular diet is a wet mash of Triple Crown Balancer Cubes and beet pulp.

Thank you for the huge donation of pumpkins!! Everyone is loving them today!

Merrymac Farm Sanctuary rehabilitating two starving horses Two Addison County horses seized by law enforcement last month for living in unsafe situations are now recuperating at an animal sanctuary in Charlotte.

Honey has survived starvation and a long, hard life as a trail horse and probably never had proper care to her teeth, which is vital for a horse to live a long healthy life. Her spirit is good, she loves her boyfriend Romeo, who is beginning to look better and we need them to carry on together. 💕

Everyone knows that having a vet come over the holidays requires EMERGENCY calls so if you feel inclined to help with any of these costs, we will always encourage donations to be made.

We all know it's hard to eat if your mouth hurts. Today will be another day of vet visits most likely. She's on some big-time antibiotics and pain meds and we will continue to hope that she could turn a corner to start eating.

Dr. Emma was out yesterday again further looking into a potential abscess that might be brewing in that region. She continued to get some preventative treatment for colic because she's still not really eating and we don't want her to get backed up.

❤️‍🩹 UPDATE on HONEY--she has some elevated bloodwork and SAA which is saying that there is an infection going on which is most likely coming from her teeth area, where some teeth were taken out a few weeks ago.

Only if she signs a non-interference contract.
