Just grateful.
An excerpt from Ancestors Said. A book by EhimΓ© Ora which reads, βJanuary 1st. Here you will stand up for yourself. Do not cower in the face of conflict. Even if your voice shakes and cracks, do not give your power away. Your destiny has never been to be passive.β
Ancestors Said:
(January 1st)
My love, thanks for always uplifting me and my work π
03.01.2025 16:57 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Our ancestors want us to be in alignment with our personal destiny, thus our authenticity. You do not need to be anybody but yourself. Your people may have lineage codes, but those are usually moral codes to do with characterβnot your personality! Itβs okay to be yourself π
27.12.2024 01:36 β π 30 π 13 π¬ 2 π 0But if youβre unable to have children for whatever reason, our traditions believe that taking care of children in whatever we can suffices our collective destiny. Do your best to past goodness forward to the next generation, no matter your sexual orientation or gender identity π
27.12.2024 01:34 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0According to the IfΓ‘ practice, the collective destiny of humanity is to have childrenβand this is also the way we are able to successfully become an ancestor. This is why many, if not all, orisa have a peculiar ability to help with child rearing.
27.12.2024 01:34 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0There are certain orisa, like Erinle who I am initiated into, who have been adopted to even oversee queer peopleβespecially within the diaspora.
What youβll hear from divinities, traditions, and your ancestors is the push towards having children.
This is an excellent question! To be honest, divinities have a large understanding of human possibility (probably more than we do). Because of this, theyβre very flexible. Itβs a misconception, especially with African spiritual spaces, that these divinities care about your queerness.
27.12.2024 01:34 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Whatβs something youβve always wanted to ask about African spirituality and ancestral veneration but never gotten an answer? Let me answer it for you. There are no stupid questions π
27.12.2024 00:02 β π 14 π 5 π¬ 5 π 1This year destroyed all echoes of who I thought I was. I donβt know how to be anybody but myself. Grateful.
24.12.2024 03:18 β π 17 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0This year stripped me bare until all that was left was my spirit. I canβt help but show up differently. I canβt help but show up more raw, more honest, more me.
24.12.2024 03:18 β π 33 π 4 π¬ 1 π 0Thank you so much for tagging me. I resonate with this thread so heavily, because I too, had to teach myself certain traits and create new systems that nourish me. Releasing shame was a big part of that! And that influences how I relate with others too. Thanks for seeing me π
24.12.2024 03:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0βwe can look at the arrival of bitterness with transformative hope because sweetness will shortly accompany it; life is dualistic that way.β
@ehimeora.bsky.social, spirits come from water
water is so cleansing..let me start my book and eat my cherries while sipping my water. π @ehimeora.bsky.social
21.12.2024 00:07 β π 6 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0People think Oya just gonna knock you upside the head with change and leave you there, but she actually stays with you. She watches you. When you have difficulty moving through lifeβs transitions, sheβll show herself to you in the form of cool breeze.
Talk to the wind.
Do not underestimate Oyaβs ability to bring healing after great change. Transformation doesnβt always have to leave you bitter. Talk to the wind.
19.12.2024 16:30 β π 37 π 7 π¬ 1 π 0It is!
11.12.2024 11:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I find my books to take on a life of their own and Iβm starting to see the way she moves. Her temperament, her desire, her joy, her grief. An extension of myself, my beacon of hope.
What do you think of her? How has she been making you feel?
Itβs been a little over a month since sheβs been born and everything sounds like the ocean. I wrote this book during one of the most difficult periods of my life and it healed me. Seeing the love itβs bringing to others makes me want to cry. I am so happy.

Obatala teaches us the importance of grace and growth that occurs when weβre self-accountable.β
