So when people oppose food stamps and welfare they’re basically admitting either they don’t understand systems and can only think in vacuum-isolated individualization OR they just don’t care if the poorest X% of the population dies because they’ve been priced out of basic necessities.

Capitalism naturally creates a permanent strata of poverty at the bottom, inescapable (except a lucky few who get held up as tokens to shame the rest) because prices adjust as more people have more money they’re willing to spend. So then we punish all those people for being affected by the system.

And the thing about opposing welfare is that under capitalism we only, e.g., grow food to make profit rather than to feed people so prices are set not for affordability/access but to the highest price the largest number of people will be willing to pay, which intrinsically prices out the poorest X%.

It’s especially funny because they’re the ones going “wHo’S gOiNg To PaY fOr iT” but then there’s this like fundamental disconnect in their brains between paying taxes and government services. It’s like their brains are just fucking completely scrambled by cognitive dissonance.

When I lived in NC, my parents (who are very conservative) would visit from NY and would complain the entire time about the lack of playgrounds and public parks and I was like “guys this is the thing you want, this is what it looks like when you don’t fund the government”

I live in northern NJ and there is a playground like this maybe every 8 blocks. They exist because we pay a lot of taxes to build and maintain robust park systems. These are intrinsically progressive ventures, the result of socialism. The world these people want to create would only destroy this.
