Kathy Hochul’s Challenger Is All In On ICE Republican Bruce Blakeman faces an uphill climb against the governor, and his immigration stances probably won’t help.

My latest in @nymag.com: Bruce Blakeman is running a political risk by tying his fortunes to the Trump administration and the tactics of ICE. Last November, a poll by Siena College found solid opposition among NYS voters to masked ICE agents arresting immigrants, by 61% to 31%.

In 16 shooting incidents since July, no DHS officers have faced charges The Trump administration’s rush to defend the officers and accuse the victims of attacking them has sparked widespread outrage and demands for accountability.

Homeland Security officers have fired shots during enforcement arrests or at people protesting their operations 16 times since July.

In each case, the Trump administration has declared their actions justified before investigations are completed.

No wonder they wear masks.

Minnesota National Guard members have arrived at a federal building and were directed to distribute donuts, coffee, and hot chocolate to anti-ICE protesters. Guard members were issued reflective vests so they would not be mistaken for federal agents.
