I always wondered what it was like for scientists trying to pull the curtain down to expose AIDS or that tobacco causes cancer.

This is it. We’re living in truly wild times.

Universal masking, which we tried for two hot seconds in America before people started throwing tantrums & posting up with their guns, is about the same kind of understanding ourselves as a collective we would actually need to counter fascism. You care about the community so you set a group norm.

I see the mode of posting here is to disengage entirely from the real point and call everyone who knows or cares more than you crazy. It's shameful and useless.

COVID is oncogenic. It causes and reactivates cancer. Wear a mask to protect yourself from this, you'll regret not doing so as many have.

@figgityfigs.bsky.social This is basically the logical fallacy of the argument from incredulity (this cant be true because I cant see it/imagine it happening). You underestimate how much time it takes for humans to see cause and effect in disease. Paco made a great video on this very subject.

That's why allowing everyone to be infected and reinfected was a catastrophic decision. This is a virus that has already killed more Americans than HIV. We don't know what the long term effects are but none of the research suggests anything good. There are no treatments and no cure.

It’s a slow-moving spiral: first their health, then their grades, then their future. Those for whom Covid looms very present are feeling forgotten, subject to pervasive skepticism and a kind of cultural fatigue when it comes to their illness.

I knew someone like that. All that talking and not a mask in sight. Propaganda really won.

Meanwhile most rich people won’t even set foot in certain places without updated vaccines, cutting edge COVID tests, & advanced HEPA air filtration systems.

Some important reporting in this @rollingstone.com article on the lack of school accomodations for LC kids, but really disappointing to see #LongCOVID denial given so much space.

You don't need to quote denialists and minimizers. Good journalism doesn't both side established fact!

Just found out one of my kid’s good friends is about to lose their mom to heart failure due to Covid. She’s been fighting long covid for years, & out of left field they get hit with this.
I’m gutted for my kid & their friend & the mom who is still here & trying to make it okay for when she’s not.

I think anyone who says masking is about fear and not rational risk assesment should tell us how many covid infections that tops out at. Like, you surely can't be saying that getting covid 20 times is OK? And calling yourself scientifically literate in any way? Give us a number.

yeah, i think a commitment to public health obligates you to get vaccinated and, when you are sick, do what you can to avoid spreading that to other people. the demand that one mask at all times in public spaces is, i think, unreasonable.

How did Jamelle Bouie go from talking about COVID killing his family members to saying precautions that could save lives are unreasonable?

Better: Wear a mask so you don't get sick. Stay home when you are sick, for your own sake.

Michael Collins Morton in a suburban neighborhood, wearing a flat cap, dark glasses, a respirator mask, and a jacket with a zipper.

Most people regard wearing a respirator mask in all public spaces during the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19 as "unreasonable," but I regard wearing a respirator mask as a completely reasonable means of avoiding the irreparable harm that results from every infection of Covid-19.

were still trying
