Tracking substance use data helps the government better understand the addiction challenges in Alberta and make informed, strategic decisions about how best to create a recovery-oriented system of care that supports individuals experiencing addiction. Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System
Alberta Substance Use Surveillance System is currently down

I think a lot of us have perceived this shift but I've been curious to see how it might bear out in the data. as others have said, this may well explain a lot about the tenor of elite conversation about politics over the past few years www.nature.com/articles/s41...

11.02.2026 20:41 β π 3067 π 1418 π¬ 67 π 322Yeah, I'm not going to claim to be an expert here. You're not wrong, most need to be taken out with cheaper tools. That doesn't devalue the use of expensive tools in certain situations - but the probability has to be very low that you will need to use them, or the economics suck.
14.02.2026 21:01 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I mean, they do have a place, so long as there's defense in depth. If the cheaper options didn't manage to get it, then using a scarce and expensive resource may still make economic sense - either when considered as a fractional cost of defense, or as a damage cost averted.
14.02.2026 04:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'd love to think that these will ever reach production, but I'm very skeptical. Too much new stuff in one package means extended development hell as a general rule.

I'm not sure it's that they hate measuring outcomes -- I think it's that they're afraid of measuring them. The corporate media environment is not exactly subtle in their hostility to the NDP.
It's still not good, just for a different reason.
I'm actually super embarrassed for the city and furious about this
It's gaslighting and basically implies reporters are liars at a time when press freedom is already under attack. #journalism
Maybe just people wanting to be a hero, combined with a really poor understanding of the hazards. I appreciate your attempts to educate people - one outsized voice really does help.

02.02.2026 17:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Picking this study apart a little, it has a small number of participants n=39), which makes achieving a statistically significant result difficult. Looking at the graph, it does look like it helps at 3 minutes, but again, small n.
02.02.2026 17:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, as you're pointing out, there are a lot of variables and the situation is already chaotic. It may help, or it may not, but trying to collect any evidence in a protest environment is likely a waste of time.

Not just rubbing right - think about an eye wash station, which basically uses flowing water to flush stuff. Any mixing at that boundary layer helps, with or without baby shampoo.
Agreeing with Danon reflection that exiting the area is the first and most critical thing to do regardless.
Interesting, I would expect a small amount of baby shampoo in water to help with pepper spray in particular given capsaicin is hydrophobic.

It's hard to keep up, but did we already know Bjorn Lomborg was hanging out with Epstein?

Psych! Hereβs an article explaining why Calgary police wanted these Hootsuite and Meltwater contracts, as well as providing full access to the contracts and correspondence obtained through freedom of information.

This is infuriating. We've known that these datasets are rife with CSAM since at least 2023, and those are the ones that are public.

just occurred to me that this could be an extinction-level event for facebook, like consider:
β’ everybody hates you, mark
β’ the only reason anybody still uses facebook is because everybody else still uses facebook
β’ if you nuke critical information, people are gonna start congregating elsewhere
I needed this, so thank you.

Someone should write a story tallying all the times that Poilievre, Smith and other conservative politicians compared Alberta vs BC drug poisonings using false numbers.
Hereβs what was actually going on:

Hey I know...why don't we invest in corporations that are destroying the planet and toxic for society that make billionaires richer.
A year ago! When anyone working in the field could have told them to stop drinking AI kool-aid and start thinking about what kind of world they want.
I'm just glad you're still alive. It sounds like an awful winter. A lot of people do still care, though I'm sure at times it doesn't feel like it.
