Can't believe it's been 2 years since dad passed away. I'm still in shock of him not being here, saw/spoke to him virtually every day, walking to the shop, going up the bookies, coming around the house for a cuppa, chat & watch some sport.
We are all missing you, dad.
Love you.

My grandfather was on this landing, thankfully unopposed (they didn't know at the time, tho), with his pet monkey key, Jacko. Also, you can see the US M1 Garand & their advance over the next few days, via their WD & map (latter from COPP survey).

Birthday Memories for my grandfather, Thomas Hall, who was born #OTD in 1918. He sadly passed away in 1982, when I was only 12, but he is in my thoughts daily and will always be remembered by the family. Miss and love you, Gramps.

HMS Ajax was eventually broken up at Cashmores Ltd., in my hometown of Newport, South Wales, on the banks of the River Usk, just across from where I live. Unfortunately, whilst sailing there, it ran aground at the mouth of the estuary of the river.

One of his 3 Bronze Stars, I believe, was for heroism in rescuing comrades from a swollen river in Dec '44, near the Clervaux area. Had some great nights with them & some Calavados, wish I noted down all of their anecdotes.Good memories.

#OTD 1944, Robert W Pocklington, a PFC from a Special Pioneer Platoon Troop, 2nd Batt. 110th Infantry Regt., 28th Div, was awarded a Bronze Star for heroism during the Battle of the Bulge. Here he is on the right, with a Hank Schrijver, who I both met on a Normandy tour in '89.

#OTD 2nd Dec '44, the John Harvey, exploded in Bari harbour, full of mustard gas. My great uncle, John Appleby RAFVR, was with his unit, 267 Pegasus Squadron at their airfield base about 5km's away, the blast blew in the windows of the control tower & aerodrome.

#OTD 26th Nov 1943.
The HMT Rohna Disaster. My grandfather was to witness it en route to Burma in KMF.26. It was sunk by a Hs293 radio controlled glide bomb from a He177A aircraft. It was to be the biggest single loss of US servicemen action to that date&was covered up during the war & many decades.
Good on yer. π
