#OTD 1945, my great uncle, George Henry Hall, was liberated from his POW camp in Thailand. He spent over 3 & 1/2 yrs in cruel captivity & was forced to work on the Death Railway via a few camps,inc Changi, to start with. He was repatriated not long afterwards. Poor sod.

#OTD my great uncle, Wilfred James Hall, from Cwmbran, wrote his last letter to his brother, Thomas, my grandfather, who was with No.1 Cdo in Burma. Wilfred's unit, the 53rd Regt. Recce Corps, RAC were on a 'well needed day for maintenance & rest'. KIA on 20th Sept'44 during Market Garden.

Remembering family on #VJDay80, who were in the Far East, inc my Army Commando grandfather, a great uncle in the SWB's, one in the RAF, plus one as a #FEPOW at the fall of Singapore. With the dropping of the bombs, it cut short their suffering & most probs saved their lives.

#OTD 25th July 1944, my great uncle was on a special mission called Operation Wildhorn lll to pick up captured V2's parts,plans,photos, plus insert/extract Polish agents. Flew in a single C47 from their base in Italy to a beet field at night in southern Poland to pick it up.

#OTD 15th Feb 1942, Singapore fell to the Japanese & my great uncle was one of the many thousands captured. He was to spend over 3 & half yrs in cruel captivity & treatment, at Changi first, then transported north to work on the Death Railway via another 4 camps.

Can't believe it's been a year since dad passed away. I'm still in shock of him not being here, saw/spoke to him virtually every day, walking to the shop, going up the bookies, coming around the house for a cuppa, chat & watch some sport.

Battle of Hill 170 The Battle of Hill 170 was a battle between the British 3rd Commando Brigade and the Japanese 54th Division during the Second World War. The battle was fought in January 1945, as part of the Burma Campaign.

80 years ago today, both mine and @npteggchaser69.bsky.social extremely brave Grandfather's were stepping out of battered and half broken down landing craft into the stagnant swamps that lined the banks of a little known river in Burma, the Daingbon Chaung. 📸LBD & DL

Found out that the LSI MV Royal Scotsman, that my grandfather was evacuated on (wounded) in early June '40 from Bodø, whilst with No.2 Independent Company, was to become the Church of Sciencetology's flagship (as MV Apollo) & L Ron Hubbards personal residence from 67-75.

#OTD 1918, my grandfather, Thomas Hall was born in Cwmbran. He served throughout the SWW with a few units, Monmouthshire Regt, Independent Companies & No.1 Army Commando.
Sadly passed away '82, when I was only 12.
Always in my thoughts, never be forgotten.
