This. Any lawmaker telling advocates it's a "tight budget season" while advancing a "recoupling" effort that would simultaneously hurt our budget and set an incredibly dangerous precedent of bowing at the feet of illegal federal interference should think twice about this approach.

Today marks 14 years since 17-year-old, unarmed Trayvon Martin was shot and killed while walking home.

14 years later, we’re still demanding a country where our children can walk home in peace — without being treated like a threat.

Soooo why are the MPD orders permitting officers to share information about DC residents with ICE still in place, Jeff?

Members of our staff testified today before the DC Council's Committee on Human Services. Their testimonies focused on TANF, housing, & SNAP policies, & on how the council can mitigate harm in the upcoming budget. They only spoke for a few minutes, but we have tons of in-depth analysis at dcfpi.org

It was also great how patient @cmfrumin.bsky.social was with folks getting into the Zoom, dealing with the tech - not dinging folks for missing the timing of their testimony when the witness list moved faster than anticipated

Neighbors, Congress is again trying to blow up the District’s finances. The House and Senate are advancing unprecedented disapproval resolutions that would change District tax laws in the middle of our local tax filing season. As our independent and non-partisan Chief Financial Officer informed Congress today, if Congress adopts these resolutions, District tax collections could be delayed by six months and create a cash flow shortfall of $400 million. No District business or resident wants to endure a chaotic tax season because of Congress. No one wants District services interrupted during the celebrations of America’s 250th anniversary. I call on every member to use their common sense and vote to reject these resolutions.
